Finally managed to start on Tara (4421)

I took a screen shot of Tara with the property boundary layer loaded in the background:

yahoo sat imagery might be low res, but since Tuesday we have Qld property boundaries to play with, which includes gaps for roads, rail and water ways etc... Not 100% perfect, but neither is sat imagery, but it comes in very handy as a secondary source to help with GPS inaccuracies etc.

The big Move

You could always try and educate others near by to the benefits and get your own group running :)

Good weekend then? :)

Queensland Mappers Rejoice! - Cadastre geometry now available

Seems to be a similar database that google got their hands on, same errors :)

I would discuss things before manually drawing too many areas out, I think it would be very beneficial to have this data in OSM, just a matter of deciding how to move forward with the import.

Edgars Creek on the map?

You should have access to the yahoo hi-res sat imagery in Melbourne, you just need to load the area in your favourite editor and then get the yahoo imagery to load.

From there you just draw an approx line along the water way and tag waterway=stream.

If you want more details/help message me directly, or join the talk-au list and we'll be happy to help.

That link you posted looks identical to this site:

If you are using JOSM, what JOSM version are you using, I just noticed a bug where I thought ways were deleted but JOSM wasn't showing them.

You can geotag photos by embedding lat/lon etc in the exif

Map editing

It's currently being debated on the talk-au list about what ABS boundaries should and shouldn't be used for, yes GPS/local knowledge in most cases is better.

I've been working on postcode boundaries over the last week or so, hopefully it wasn't the boundaries I've been tweaking broke what you did, in any case can you point out which ones have broken so I can investigate further.

There seems to be some bot breaking up ways longer than 2000 nodes and doing screwy things.

Caved in...

I've been using the duplicate relation function a lot lately while manually importing Australian postcode boundaries so I didn't need to copy and paste or remember all the tags they needed to be tagged with, this way I just alter what needs to be altered.

4) OSM coastal data cares about the high water mark...

Well, really

Wow I feel so honoured to have received this award, there was so much stiff competition from the trolls out there.

I don't know where to start on thanking all the little people who helped me get here.

Villages and Suburbs

Most suburbs should already be marked however due to the ABS import. Unless you are talking about place tags in which case you make a node and tag it

place=suburb
name=*

Multi Tagging

The ABS data is the best we have for rivers in most parts of Australia even if it isn't entirely accurate.

Missing Feature or Missing the Instructions?

dygituljunky, yes they are important, but tagging for software only leads to inconsistency. Where as tagging what you see is generally consistent between people and software rendering can turn this into what you expect maps to look like.

Missing Feature or Missing the Instructions?

I've started doing some work on getting a mapnik style sheet for Aussie map shields, not happy with the images but it does work and it doesn't need any special tags to work, perhaps now is as good a time as ever to submit what I've done so far as a bug to see if others can improve on what I've done.

cant get into map

Act like you own the place and security won't say boo usually :)
