End of mapping season

Well, for me the mapping season is over since tomorrow I'll go back home so I can't borrow anymore my friend's GPS receiver. I'm pretty satisfied though, I've added so far a good number of roads on the hillside of Bologna, today I added the last trip to Parco Regionale di Monte Sole, nice place, great for MTB, and nearly completely unmapped, not even the borders of the park ;-) There is still a lot of work to do, I hope that others bikers in this area will start adding some routes, and for sure they know better the tracks (we nearly got lost in the park since directions were a bit scarce)... I'll try to go a bit deeper in detail in the city of Bologna, for example adding bus stops, since you don't need a GPS for that. I could also work on something in my hometown in Friuli, but they are doing a great job by importing from an official datasource, so I'll better hold on on that side. Enjoy your holidays

I don't know if this is an option for you, but I thought I'd mention that one can get GPS receivers quite cheaply (for under 20 euro with a bit of luck) that one can then connect to a bluetooth enabled phone to record tracks and potentially display maps.

On the otherhand, one can do quite a bit of mapping without the need of a GPS if the basic road layout is already available and I think that the need for GPS is sometimes over emphasised in OSM. Things like walking-papers or other basic tools can be quite useful to note down details relative to roads and intersections

Have fun continuing mapping and have a good holiday
