Yeah I thought about handling these this manner, but I’m concerned about not properly representing a main line.

* You will some discussion on this topic in the talk page

To be consistent, for the time being I feel like one should use `motorway_junction:ref=` to go with `highway=motorway_junction` when referring to exits.
Shockingly, apparently `highway=motorway_junction` is also de facto only. You will some discussion on this topic.

(You will see J-numbers being used to refer to the entire interchange in the UK. Exit numbers are meaningless to use in this respect, and they don't cover entrances and entry-only connector roads.)

First of all, I think there's some issues with the Wiki. It is a "in use" key only, and the associated proposal is only in draft stage and is very old.
If you compare definitions, you will see there are some inconsistencies. "junction" itsel refers to a junction, nothing more (see `junction=`). `highway=motorway_junction` is a historic mistake of referring to exits (UK conveniently mixes up "motorway junction" and exit numbers), and this is apparently what the `junction:ref=` page is referring to. Furthermore, when you look at the page, it mentioned `destination=`, however "junction" and "destination" are really different concepts. No one really knows how the page's author comes to the conclusion, despite >20k uses of `junction:ref=`.
In Hong Kong, signalized junctions and crosswalks are numbered on the ground by the set of traffic signal system. Someone took the time to add them. Since them, at least there are some attempts to incorporate them properly (the standalone `note=highway=traffic_signals` or unchanged `highway=traffic_signals` nodes. Recently, I'm settling towards using `traffic_signal:ref=` instead of `junction:ref=`, so they should be changed in the future.
Anyway, no one really uses exit numbers much in HK. They are purely a systematic construct for the sake of it. You will notice interchange and roundabout names, as well as street names at times, are pretty inconsistent.

Please notice the connection with Mt Sterling Mall. It is considered a road/carriageway. The `_link` terminates there.

I take the view that Lei Yue Mun Rd is a continuous main line of `highway=trunk` here, with either side forking off. It was somewhat agreed before there can be `highway=trunk` with `noref=yes`.

Quite many considered that when a road ends, the roundabout should take the lower classification of the connecting roads.

Please don't abuse areas. Use `area=yes` for big omni-directionally navigable areas, and `area:highway=*` for linear areas. Ways are still needed for routing and representation. `highway=pedestrian` + `area=yes` means an area where motor vehicles can travel in all directions, unlike `area:highway=pedestrian`

But now I realized osm.org/user/Brian@Brea/ should be active. Maybe you can message him again now with your original message? Add that we started discussing it once more here.

Since you already contacted the creator, I suppose not. He can make a response easily if he wants.
I say we can add appropriate `brand=` and `branch=`, etc tags to them, and check that each location is well-defined, before deleting it.

Can you explain where do you get `ref=N`? Also use `crossing=traffic_signals` and others instead of `crossing=marked`.
