Question about doing a bulk update

Posted by Kromagv0 on 7 March 2009 in English.

Well thanks to Steve Chilton I have discovered that for a nature reserve to be rendered correctly the correct tag is leisure=nature_reserve and not landuse=nature_reserve. When I did the initial upload from JOSM it included about 120,000 points and took about a day to do. What I want to do is add the leisure=nature_reserve tag to all the WMAs that I uploaded in minnesota but do it all at once. I did some poking around in JOSM and am at a loss as to the best way to do this. I can't do a download of the entire state of minnesota, but I don't know if by just making the change to my local dataset (the one I created for the WMAs) will entale reuploading all 120,000 or so points. There are only a couple thoustand (about 2500) WMAs in the state which would be a good size batch. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to how I should do this?

Perhaps you could ask in the osm-dev mailing list?

Other than that the only way I know of would be to download the largest chunks you could in JOSM, then do a selection based on all ways tagged with landuse=nature_reserve. That's how I added maxspeed=50 to every residential street in my hometown.

Good luck...Maybe you could borrow a machine with 16G of ram to do it :p.

I'll also add that what you must not do is to just upload your original data again with the extra tag added - if you do that you will leave two of everything in the database.
