The Erne Boat Hire company has a locked cabinet here they operate their business from. It's not really a building, more of a cabinet. Looking at their website it looks like they have upgraded to sheds on the pier a bit further up - https://erneboathireltd.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/online-booking-img.jpg

Why did you remove the wooded area?

The main issue here is that the name is already in the relation for the island, see - osm.org/relation/3998505
If you look at the history of that relation - osm.org/changeset/25084499 I was putting these islands into the corresponding Civil Parishes, which is very complex and takes a lot of time. You can also see that my sources are Bing, GSGS 3906.
GSGS 3906 ( https://maps.nls.uk/os/25k-gb-1940-43/ ) is a scanned copy of a map generated for the War Office and was donated to the OpenStreetMap Ireland community for the townlands project. Each of these scanned maps were painstakingly rectified on Mapwarper and used to trace almost all of the townlands. For this particular island, this is the map we used - https://mapwarper.net/maps/1870

We have invested a lot of time and effort to produce a licence free map and can not allow it to become polluted by copyrighted material.

If you want to help improve naming objects in OSM, may I suggest you use the likes of mapillary.com or kartaview.org which allow you to take photographs of your local surroundings and upload them under an open licence. You and other mappers can then use these to source the names, such as road names, speed limits, building names etc.
Also, bear in mind that OSM is a database of geo information. It is not a "map" in the common meaning of the word. People and organisations can use the data to create their own map or style. A few examples are available here - https://openmaptiles.org/styles/ I particularly like this one, due to the addiction of contour lines and bold placenames - https://www.maptiler.com/maps/#topo//vector/12.62/-7.81637/54.51052

No, I agree with you that there are Christian burials here. But I just want to point out that many of these sites were in use before Christianity arrived in Ireland . Your involvement in the local community would be appreciated. We surely have the same goal here, in making OSM the best map it can possibly be. I propose that it be dual tagged as religion=christian;pre-christian and a note explaining the situation.

1) PRONI Ordnance Survey of NI Historical Maps Editions 1 is a copyrighted source and using this as source is a breach of their copyright as are most of the edits by this user!
2) NoelB is an experienced mapper in the area and has out of copyright maps available.
3) The DWG need to review all edits done by the user impey as if they breach copyright, they need to be removed from the database ASAP

What are you doing??!? The island has a name tagged on the relation!

1) The PRONI Historical Maps are copyrighted (see the agreement that must be accepted before use - https://imgur.com/tgHPpPJ ) and therefore CAN NOT be used to source information.
2) The Islands DO have a name, but are tagged within the relation. If you do not understand how relations work, please ask someone and learn how to work with them. There are some really good how-to videos on YouTube which show how townlands are made up. See - https://www.openstreetmap.ie/projects/townlands/
3) It is good practice to read and respond to previous changeset comments, like the ones other members have been asking regarding issues going back months now. I asked you about your source of the street names in Ederney in May and you have ignored me. Copying from Google Maps/StreetView or PRONI/LPS/OSNI is not allowed. Copyright infringement is a serious issue and could destroy the hard earned work a lot of us have put in to creating an open map.
4) A change-set comment of "Update" is basically useless!! Comments should be as detailed as possible and INCLUDE the source of the information (so we don't have to ask you!)
5) There are a set of common practices regarding naming in OSM. For example, we don't use abbreviations like St, Rd or Ave and spell it out completely. The same is true for names of churches, ie Saint Patrick's. We also tag the religion, so don't include it in the name, which is why NoelB is asking you why you are adding (RC) to the names of churches in your "updates".

While there are mostly Christian burials right now, there have been studies that suggest this was a religious site before St Tiernan founded the monastery here ~550. A site much like and related to the carvings on Boa and White Island and therefore may have been a site adopted by early Christians.

Hi Marc, can you revert these change-sets? This user is ignoring previous attempts to communicate and make things right and these deleted/broken relations are going to play havoc with downstream users who rely on OSM data.

112416478 almost 4 years ago

Seriously, would you stop with your vandalism of the map!! You are not "updating" it as per your changeset comment, but are removing relations and ways that are needed to generate the Parish, Barony and County relations. Basically breaking all the data structures required to power sites like townlands.ie.

Oh interesting!! I wonder is there any historic sites in the path, like the Drumclay crannog. Do you know what they doing with the old railway bridge?

108699034 about 4 years ago

Has this project been given the green light? Last I heard they hadn't got the funding for it!

Where are these names sourced from? These names look like the mistakes Google Maps make!
