I put the body of water and all the footpaths I could see from Humbuldt Park in. I also took a look at O'Hare Intl Airport - someone's been busy. It looks great!

OK, so I didn't walk away just yet. :)
I saw a response to one of my first diary entries, talking about footpaths. I think that's what we call sidewalks. I added a whole bunch around my neighborhood. I remembered that one of the new developments here has a traffic circle (roundabout?). How do I enter those in? See the Yahoo! view of tagged map location, to see it.
As I was fixing up the intersections of North Ave (IL Rt 64) in Chicago, a stray way kept getting created, going from where North Ave intersects Interstate 90/94 and the middle of Humboldt Park. I kept deleting it, but it kept coming back. Once I got rid of it, I decided to fix up Division St some more (noticed some non-intersecting cross streets by St Mary's Hospital). I had a hell of a time getting the intersection to take. It's like the database takes the link, but doesn't show it. When I delete it and try to make it again, I'll get a yellow highlight, but not the road. It's really odd. It's frutrating how few of the intersections are there. I mean, if the roads cross, intersect them. Why didn't that happen on import?
I'm giving up for a while.
Also, I noticed the sports parks only have British sports. No Baseball Diamond, no Basketball Court, and I'm sure the "Football Field" is referring to Soccer. Is there a way we can get other sports in there?
Franklin Park just removed a 2 or 3-track rail line, and merged it with another nearby 3-track line, in order to build an underpass for Grand Ave (a secondary thoroughfare). They made a street where the old railroad was. I don't know how far it goes, and I can't recall what they named it. I'll try to swing by there in the spring with a notepad, and write down what the new street does. Until then, I put in a road, and the underpass. Feel free to check my work at the map point attached to this entry. No idea how the rail lines are named now.
Added buildings for my work, cleaned up US-12 (Mannheim Rd), IL-64 (North Ave), Grand Ave, and Wolf Rd, as well as a few residential streets in Northlake and Melrose Park, IL. Made a few TIGER corrections (as well as removing a non-existent service road, per last diary entry).
One thing I've noticed: The maps for the Chicago area are woefully inaccurate and incomplete. In fact, as they stand now, they aren't just poor, they are dangerous! This is a metroplex of millions, over 100 square miles. It seems like a pretty daunting task for me to attack alone. I see a few (maybe a dozen) other mappers in the Chicago area, but I haven't run across any of their work yet.
It seems like the UK is really well-covered. Are there any plans to try to recruit more people in the States to start mapping? It would take multiple lifetimes to get Chicago's map accurate, never mind looking as sharp as London's.
I'll keep plugging away, putting in the areas I've been driving for the last 7 years, but to what end???
Saw something that doesn't match the Yahoo map, nor my experience one bit. There is a service road, or perhaps footpath that goes for a few miles near the spot I marked with this entry. It runs right through a baseball diamond, crosses some major roads (many of which I've driven hundreds of times, as it is on my route to work), and generally doesn't make any sense.
I looked it with map data on, and it appears to have been placed by TIGER. I'm WAY too new at this to argue with TIGER, so could someone else, who knows what can happen, maybe have a look?
The area is around Triton College and Gottlieb Hospital, in River Forest, IL USA.
Thanks!
Added Illinois Masonic Hospital campus, Walter Payton Prep School, tweaked the Division St. junction with I-90/94, marked a few of the new subdivisions, and marked some of the famous highrise malls in downtown Chicago. If someone could take a look at how I marked Water Tower Place, et al, and correct me if I did them wrong, it'd be much appreciated. What's the best method for marking famous buildings (ie - The Sears Tower)?
Took a look at some spaces in London and added Seward Park, near me, in Chicago.
Also added Latin School of Chicago's 3 buildings.
LOTS of work to be done on the Chicago area of the map! I hope we can get more locals working on this.
I added the parking alleys and a footpath by Old Town Village West. I noticed that Seward Park (Orleans & Division) doesn't appear to be marked. I wonder (aloud) how I add that.
Extended Division St west beyond the Kennedy Expy (I-90/94). Need to learn how to link secondary street to Interstate. Also added private road, Frontier St and removed incorrect link of Howe St to Hobbie - they don't link, it's a walkway.
