More and more people come to Guilin to travel. which is very nice place in south of China. I am a local guide and want to help the people from other contry to find the way easier than using google map or other map, Because of VPN limited in China , most of the foreinger people surprise that most of the apps they can use in their own country can not use in China. So they can not find way very easy and also, few people in China can speak English.

I reckon the best way to help foreigners is to add complete name information for streets. So many streets are completely unnamed - even in Chinese characters. The addition of ‘name:en=’ tag would be even more help. Users of OsmAnd can set the display language to either local lanuage (Chinese) or English (and many other languages).

In addition to my previous post I’ve been looking at some features in Mark’s local area and would like advice on the best/most correct way to name tag these sample features:-
osm.org/way/249356827 I think it would be better if this were tagged with…. name= ‘whatever are the Chinese characters for Xishan Park’ plus ‘name:en=Xishan Park
osm.org/way/243874128 I think the existing ‘name=七星公园Seven-Star Park’ should show only the Chinese characters. Is it correct to mix languages in a single name tag? Leave ‘name:en=Seven-Star Park’ in place.
Advice welcomed. Ultimate aim is to load Chinese and English language name tags for streets and certain POIs so that tourists can use OsmAnd and configure map to display in whichever language they consider most useful. Bit of Chinese/English (New Zealand!) co-operation.

I think multilunguagal forms have been used with some seperation char in places in europe that recieved two equal names localy (I think the example came from a belgian contributer) but often things get entered in one language. I think the rule of thumb is what you expect to see on a local sign for local people (ie not just for torist convienance) or if say a restraunt uses a deliberate bilingual form so that it forms a single language all to itself in the default to help people it is common to then add the full translations in the single language forms in sub-langauge tags so mono-lingual reads get the whole name.
In simple terms you can have multiple languages in the defualt but you need a bit of a better reason than it is just translated for forigners convienance as thats what the other tags do.
