"creating your own map" is a FAQ with many many answers in the documentation, depending on what you want to do and what your ressources are. For a straightforward "show a few specific POI on the map" like your example seems to be, try osm.wiki/Openlayers .

Is what you're looking for is a varient of Google My Maps?

We don't provide such a service. OSM is especially about the data. Map making are just a bit of extras we do to make it attractive. If we let all users create their own maps, it would cause too much work for us.
If you want to make your own map with our data, than you will have to make it yourself (create your own website with openlayers (see above), or even render your own map with mapnik or OsmArenderer, search the wiki if you need info). Or you will have to use other services that use OSM data.
As example, Cloudemade provides some extras around our data: http://maps.cloudmade.com/ , the open mapquest site uses OSM data: http://open.mapquest.com/ and Bing maps also has an OSM layer, sadly I'm not using Windows, so I can't see that OSM layer or link you to it.

Hey MarkDilley. There's a name I recognise from a while ago! (SwitchWiki!) How's things? I'm big into OpenStreetMap these days ...it's wiki map!

Harry Wood! Fantastic :-) SwitchWiki is now WikiIndex and I have an idea for mapping CivicWiki - thought I would check out OpenStreetMaps because it is a wiki map! But seems from what Sanderd says - that might not be possible... but glad I have dipped my toes in here!! Great to see you :-)
