Okay, first of all, when I map on Openstreetmap, I solely use Potlatch and work off of the satellite imagery provided by Yahoo. I do not mess with uploading GPS traces or anything. Also, when I map on OSM, it's almost always in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul Metro area in Minnesota, USA. This is mainly because of the fact that I grew up there, and spent most of my life there, so I am really familiar with the area.
But right now I currently live in the Peoria, Illinois area. I would love to start working on the Peoria area, and start tidying up the freeways and streets, but I cannot due to the poor satellite image quality. It seems that Yahoo does not have high-resolution imagery for the area, but Google and Bing do.
Last September, I thought I remembered seeing something about OSM getting a license agreement with Google, so that we could use their satellite imagery in Potlatch. This would be great, and would open up a lot of opportunities for editing in Potlatch.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this, or if Google/OSM decided against this decision. All I know is that it would make things a lot easier for me, as well as thousands of others, if we had better imagery to work with in Potlatch.
Please let me know!! Thanks!

The agreement was for Haiti imagery, not imagery in general.

There is a few DIY projects for getting your own imagery, or if you have money to burn you can buy an off the shelf cropcam.com drone...
There is also a guy in Europe making drones for ~$1200

Also, if you don’t mind eyeballing it a bit, it looks like the USGS produced Digital Map–Beta imagery of Illinois last year.

You might graduate to JOSM and take a look at the various WMS sources available from the USGS and the Navy.

Paul, I do occasionally use JOSM, but rarely; I don't like the setup as much as Potlatch. But I will check that out. Thanks.
