Finding SEO spam in OSM | About Google, you can see if the businesses is till going by looking at the businesses pages. Are they updated or are they several years old? Is the adress given there same as in OSM etc. |
Finding SEO spam in OSM | I tried to open the Overpass query, but got an error. Maybe you could copy the query text here? I assume it must be adjusted for a specific countrys language. One problem with these POI’s is how to verify if the business is still there? If can’t verify it yourself by visiting the address, you can try to google. But if google doesn’t return anything useful, should you delete the POI or not? |

Some thoughts on highway=service vs highway=track | Service |
Some thoughts on highway=service vs highway=track | Yes, service is probably better. Not unclassfied, because the road is probably not used by others then workers/farmers. But track could alos be a option. There are no hard rules! |
Some thoughts on highway=service vs highway=track | @Zify I would set it “track”. |
Some thoughts on highway=service vs highway=track | It’s important to notice how usually highways are tagged in a specific country. Same rules are not used in every country. |
Some thoughts on highway=service vs highway=track | I agree with most of your text, but service road can be long. In forest areas in Sweden we have long service roads leading to a settlement deep in the forest. The road can often be 1 km or more. These road would be classifed as tracks if the settlement wasn’t present. Same can be said of lone settlements in farmlands where a long road leads to the settlement. |

Location change... | I see this often, in Germany “all is done”. Why not change mapping country? For example where I leave (Sweden) there are lot of to do. Like update the road net. We have a excellent national road database (NVDB) which can be used for free as an reference. |
Min Karta for Sweden Mapping | FB and Telegram are not the Swedish national authority (Lantmäteriet). |
Min Karta for Sweden Mapping | Are you 100% sure the image is free to use in osm? Even it’s possible to use it as a background image. |
Searching Diaries | I assume the search parameters are the same, even if an other search engine is used (in case DDG goes away)? But as others already said there are standard methods searching the diaries. I don’t see much advantage by creating a UI layer on top of this. Better just to inform others how to do it. Maybe on the osm wiki. |

Why asking others to survey is useless. | No it’s not wrong using satellite images! For example all these are free to use in OSM: Bing, ESRI, Mapbox, Maxar. But remember all these have position errors, and the image must be calibrated to a know place/object. |
Why asking others to survey is useless. | “asking others to survey is useless”. No it isn’t! If you can’t survey the place yourself, you can ask other to do it. Hopefully somebody, some day, will do the survey. But some fixme’s will never be solved. That’s life of osm! |
Why asking others to survey is useless. | If you are able to do it! Meaning you can travel to the place you want info about. |
Improving bad mapped areas | Welcome to OSM! As you say there are lot of thing needing improvement. Before doing any major work, educate yourself about the best practises. Search in the osm wiki, and osm forums: |
Land Use | Good idea, but don’t glue any land use areas on roads! |
Transport | And if road segments are added, they must be in the same order as the stops. Else you will get errors like “bus stop on the wrong side of the street” in QA-tools. |

July | I’m from Sweden, and feel often like you with my osm work. I’m participating in project in Sweden which updates the Swedish road net. It’s an almost never ending work. Very few here find it funny or interesting. But I do, and continue. Even if so few notice my work. |
