So for sometime I’ve been breaking myself over an error in the MAPS.ME app when routing from any point in Namibia to N7 in South Africa. It fails to route me through the Noordoewer/Vioolsdrift border B1/N7 - it is unable to route directly, and instead it finds another alternative on the map which is an additional 300km or so. This is a big trouble, as visitors who might use this route, will indeed follow it thinking there are no roads in between.
Anyone help please. I tried modifying relations and even creating new roads, but it still gives me the same problem.

Try other routers and see if they all fail with this route:
http://brouter.de/brouter-web/
http://map.project-osrm.org/
https://graphhopper.com/maps/
If you see the same issue, then probably it’s something broken in OSM.

The problem maybe the access=permissive on the Namibian side where the boarder posts is? I have removed this, so see what you make of it.
OSM inspector shows no problem tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?lon=17.5&lat=-28.7&zoom=6
I have noted an error on one of the local bridges .. adding layer=1 to it.

Hi again.. a further thought.
If you try routing over a very small distance you may find the ‘barrier’ to the routing.
Just a thought.
…. It will take mapsme some time to update their maps so best to do as much to isolate the cause as possible.

Hi Warin,
I tried doing this a couple times before, and the problem lies somewhere on the namibian side, since it doesn’t help. I spent over an hour trying to figure out the issue. I’m a new mapper, so might take some time until I master all the tags etc.
@naoliv, Brouter doesn’t seem to have an issue, still trying to understand how OSRM works. For now I’ll focus on learning how to correctly tag and include relations. Will also contact MAPSme, maybe they’ll find a way around it. Thanks!

Is this the route you intended to travel? http://map.project-osrm.org/?z=10¢er=-28.724916%2C17.530060&loc=-28.492833%2C17.885742&loc=-29.161756%2C17.830811&hl=en&ly=&alt=&df=&srv= But I think the problem might have been solved by Warin61. But until the next map update in Maps.me you won’t notie the change in the app.
OpenRouteService doesn’t show any problems too: http://bit.ly/1iXbIJS
If the problem still exists after the next map update pls ask us again.

Hello Hedaja. Yes, this is exactly the route. As of yet, I am no longer editing that portion and waiting for the mapsme updated database. Thanks for your input, I’ll get in touch if the issue hasnt been resolved.
