For a moment there I thought JOSM had done something surprisingly cool. I can't make it happen again though so maybe I was dreaming...
When you draw a building using the Buildings tool/plugin, and the building you create contains a POI node such as a pub or cafe or restaurant or bank... should JOSM apply those POI tags to your new building and remove the node?

I've never witnessed that. It sounds tempting but... what about the common case of a building containing multiple POIs ? I wouldn't like to have to deal with "smart" software in those cases.

Yes, it should. This was made primarily for moving addresses from node to area, but works with other types of POI :)

dont like this, the POI is that, a point not always the full building, we should try to put the tag on the entrance node to the building that the POI belongs to, as buildings can have multiple POI and can span more than one street/road, and also lets tag such as wheelchair=yes, access=yes/no be used. I know its easy just to dump all the address tags of POI in the building outline , but I think the entrance node way works better.

A POI need not be a literal point, and there's no reason to insist on such. If other people's software doesn't cope with a polygon POI, then their software is defective. The only reason to not do this is in the case of a building containing multiple POIs, such as a hotel with a public bar, or a block of flats with multiple entrances leading to different address ranges. Otherwise we get two objects representing one thing on the ground, and an opportunity for the data on the two to get out of sync.
