Looks like the pothole has been fixed, but they forgot to remove the FIXME tag.

So we use amenity=ice_cream for stores that sell chocolate ice cream and shop=ice_cream for stores that sell strawberry ice cream?

I seem to be going around in circles in discussion of changeset 31269952 with a professional GIS user. He’s added on purpose, a node for a hardware store for which there is already a closed-Way polygon for the same hardware store.

Maybe someone can weigh in on the changeset discussion and add clarity to the discussion.

Is there a way to link to a list of all the changesets that I have made comments on?

Sometimes I make a comment on a changeset that a user never responds to. It would be helpful to be able to follow up on those, but it’s hard to track them down because I don’t get an email notification if I don’t get a response.

The OSM Blog Entry on Changeset Discussions alludes to an API that will be described on the wiki, but I can’t seem to find it.

I’m guessing it should be service_times=”Su 11:00” but since I don’t know any Korean I don’t want to assume.

Yes, these house numbers in Portland really have leading zeros. As the numbered avenues increase from east to west, they increment by 100 for every block. For example, buildings between SW 19th Ave and SW 20th Ave are between 1900 and 2000. In the city center, SW 1st Ave is very close to the Willamette River. However, as you head south the river bends leaving a bunch of streets that are east of SW 1st Ave, but still west of the Willamette river. Mathematically speaking, it might make more sense for them to have negative house numbers, but I guess just adding a leading zero has the same effect.

Looking at various maps providers, these are often not really handled correctly and the leading zero is often not preserved. It will be interesting to find out if there are any addresses where the only differentiating factor is the leading zero. The hilly terrain prevents building houses on both side of the SW 1st Ave axis in most cases.

I moved to Portland, Oregon, and then I added 1000 addresses to the map. You can see what has happened when the numbers follow a grid, but the terrain is hilly.

There’s an article in the Nashua Telegraph about High Street. They show a map and even give OpenStreetMap credit. Nice to see my work being reused.

Thanks to some relatively recent images from Bing, I was able to trace the new Manchester airport access road set to open this Friday, November 11, 2011. I'll have to get out and drive it soon after it opens. There will even be another bicycle path crossing the Merrimack River.

Last year in November I got a Garmin etrex Vista HCx to use mainly for recording tracks to upload to OSM. I've been primarily just leaving the device in my car on the dash to record where I drive. My setup involves a car USB adapter and the Garmin friction dash mount. When I stop driving I unplug the car USB adapter and the Garmin shuts down after 30 seconds. When I start off again I plug the car USB adapter again and then power on the Garmin. (My car is a Volkswagen, so the dash power adapter is always on, even when the car is not.)

In the first week of June, the Garmin would no longer turn on. I was able to record my morning commute, and my trip out for lunch, but then for my commute home I could not get the device to turn on. I tried all possible combinations of swapping batteries and removing the memory card, but no luck. After emailing Garmin support, I was able to get an RMA for the device and send it back for a replacement.

Less than 2 weeks after getting the replacement, my replacement device will not turn on (exactly the same problem as before). I'll probably end up sending this one back as well, but this is getting frustrating. It seems that the Garmin etrex Vista HCx is fairly popular in the OSM community. Has anyone had similar problems?

I stumbled upon http://open.mapquest.com/ the other day and it's very cool to see yet another use for OpenStreetMap data. They even pull Points of Interest out of the OSM data and display them on the map.

One of the categories of things to display on the map is "Places to Give." There don't appear to be any "Places to Give" listed in the United States currently. I'm assuming these are for offices of non-profit organizations that serve the community. Anyone have any idea which OSM tags might trigger entries in the "Places to Give" category?
