169133999 | about 1 month ago | I *meant* to paste this link, of when the street was actually renamed: https://www.telegram.com/story/news/local/worcester/2012/12/26/city-street-becomes-8216-lois/49193528007/ |
163252978 | 6 months ago | If there's a physical path there, but people aren't supposed to go there, marking it as private rather than deleting it allows for people using maps based on OSM data to see that they shouldn't go there, rather than maybe confusing it for some other path or thinking that it was a path that just hasn't been mapped yet. It can also help with orienting oneself ("I walk past the closed path, and take the next left" and such). You may want to take a look at these wiki pages: |
163093492 | 6 months ago | Thank you for the feedback! I just had a chance to contribute one square of the Port Townsend Virtual Mapping Party. I just merged in the existing address nodes to the building (per the question I asked on the forum https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/virtual-mapping-party-port-townsend-wa-usa-2025/126636/4 ) so I didn't want to drop part of the address though I agree that county isn't really needed. And I changed the source to source:addr since I didn't want to confuse the existing node source with the buildings I was adding, and I guess I didn't feel bold enough to just delete it. Thank you for reviewing! It's the first time anyone's ever commented on a changeset of mine. |
161009138 | 6 months ago | Thank you! That's very helpful information. I'll keep on the hunt for the town pound, and was not aware of that map but now that I know of it I think it might help me out. |
161009138 | 6 months ago | Hello! Thank you so much for mapping stone walls. I'm working on mapping the historic town pounds of New England. Can you by any chance tell me if osm.org/way/1348641320 is the town pound of Lempster, NH? The LiDAR clearly shows a square-ish something there, but on the aerial imagery I can't make out the rocks that a pound typically would be made of. Since you called it a "retaining wall" I thought you might have an idea of what this spot actually is or was used for. Thank you! |
157357580 | 11 months ago | I want to be clear that I just made up the scheme, just as it seemed similar to other specialized wastebaskets like for needles/sharps and prescriptions/drugs. But it's nice to hear that it makes some sense to someone else too! Thanks! |
157357580 | 11 months ago | Hello! I was just curious if the node osm.org/node/12215050695 that you added is actually for *recycling* of flags, or for storing flags for disposal (presumably by burning)? I'd been using amenity=waste_basket waste=flags for the cases of disposal (and documented it in the wiki), but I don't know if there might be other kinds of flag disposal boxes out there. And by any chance, can you tell me if this box is the same one pictured at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Retired_U.S._Flags_Depository_(10009843905).jpg ? Thanks. |
157642169 | 11 months ago | You're welcome. And thank you! |
154588219 | 11 months ago | Hello! I was curious about osm.org/node/12082250327 which you mapped as amenity=flag_dropoff. I was wondering if this was a place to drop off worn flags in order to be retired, or if it was some other kind of flag dropoff? I'd been using amenity=waste_basket waste=flags for flag retirement boxes (and so I made a page in the wiki for it), but I don't know if it's the best way to approach it. And so I'd like to know what other kinds of flag dropoffs are out there that I'm not familiar with. Thanks! |
157642169 | 11 months ago | Hi! I *think* the name and NHRP/Wikidata references you added here are for Clara Barton's house in Maryland, not for her birthplace in Oxford MA. I think you might have been looking for Q16890365, but I am *far* from knowledgable on wikidata and NHRP. Can you take a look and double-check this change is right? I may be the one who's mistaken. Thanks! |
151136877 | about 1 year ago | Thanks for adding your store to OpenStreetMap! I've fixed a couple minor formatting issues with the start date and opening hours, and removed the description which was more of an advertisement than a description. I also changed from shop=kitchen to shop=bathroom_furnishing which I think is closer to what it looks like this store sells, but feel free to change it back if I misunderstood something. Good luck, and happy mapping! |
9052261 | over 1 year ago | I honestly find the term "historic" a weird term in a lot of cases too, but I don't know as there's a better one. If it's still there in a 100 years then it'd definitely be historic even if it hadn't changed, no? Thanks for pointing out something that might be an interesting place next time I'm looking for some different trails to walk. |
9052261 | over 1 year ago | Thanks. If it isn't actually a worship site of some sort, would something like historic=memorial & memorial=stone (and maybe also natural=stone) make more sense? |
9052261 | almost 2 years ago | Hello! I was just wondering what "Eli's Rock" osm.org/node/1402758464 actually is? Just seems weird to be tagged as a "place of worship" and that's it. I didn't know if it might be some sort of historical worship site, or something actually in use. I noticed it when MapRoulette suggested it should include a religion tag of some sort. https://maproulette.org/challenge/38580/task/157023814

134669896 | over 2 years ago | When I hiked this trail a few months ago, it wasn't clear to me whether the signs were trying to say that the trail itself was private, or just that the land on the side of the trail was. That is, I don't know if the signs were saying to stay on the trail and not explore elsewhere, or saying to not go on the trail at all. (Though given that the trail ends at the pipeline, there isn't really much reason for anyone to take this trail.) This is just FYI; I have no objection to the edit.

125023262 | about 3 years ago | Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap! Thanks for contributing. I did make a couple updates to your edit, though I don't know as what you did was really "wrong": I changed some of the side paths there into "link" roads (see osm.wiki/Highway_link for more info on those), and it looked like you accidentally put a name "Davis R" directly on one of the "nodes" connecting the roads so I removed that for you too since the name should really just be on the roads themselves unless the intersection itself has a specific name. Happy mapping! |
124493601 | about 3 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap! Your changeset asked for a review, so here it is: Adding that crosswalk looks just fine to me. I don't think a lot of people bother with mapping the crosswalk itself as a way (they would just add the node on the road) when the rest of the sidewalks aren't mapped, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything and it's good data to start with in case more footpath mapping happens in the future. Happy mapping! |
124669488 | about 3 years ago | Hi; welcome to OSM! I saw that you marked this change "review requested", so I thought I'd give my feedback: Looks pretty good to me, as the lanes "2;1;2" that was there before certainly doesn't make any sense. I just wanted to make sure you knew that the "lanes" tag on a two-way road indicates the total number of lanes, so "2" would be a typical road with one lane in each direction. This road looks pretty narrow on the aerial imagery, so it may be that "1" is correct here, though. (I don't really know the area myself.) Hope that's helpful to you! |
96019702 | over 4 years ago | Looks like my description was truncated, so I guess I'll try describing it again here: 1. Adding bridge over McKinstry Brook (mainly based on location in USGS Topographic Maps; it might not be placed perfectly) and updating access rights and road types for this dirt portion of Berry Corner Road to the best of my understanding: East of the brook is public; west of the brook to the Sturbridge town line is private; and the portion in Sturbridge is part of the McKinstry Brook Wildlife Management area and motorized vehicles are prohibited. 2. Correcting where Ayers Road intersects with Berry Corner Road. Based on the signage, and on the numbering of the house at 1 Ayers Road, it should be at the curve itself that the paved road changes from Berry Corner Road to Ayers Road. That is, if one were traveling west from Rte. 169, when one gets to the curve one can choose to continue straight-ish onto the dirt portion of Berry Corner Road, or follow the curve south onto Ayers Road. |
