I used 10 foot long 0.5 inch diameter electrical conduit for mapping outside. I connected pieces with some screw fastener thing.
1 pole works and is short.
2 poles kind of bend.
3 poles result in a tube bending and the far tip never leaving the ground.

Do you mean for laying end-on-end to measure rods accurately?

3 poles end to end with a camera on top goes into OpenDroneMap which makes a image that goes into OpenAriealMap which can be used in OSM.

Oh that sounds pretty great! Do you have an example of the result?

(Insert lazy excuse here about what work I would have to go through to show proof.) (Finals week is soon)

You probably could use those painter telescoping pole. Or, you could buy a galvanized 1/2 inch steel pipe that usually comes in 20ft length. :)

To be safe and to avoid electrocution use non conductive poles, carbon fiber is conductive, a number of uses of carbon fiber fishing poles have died when getting too close to overhead high voltage cables.

@kucai The 20 foot pole can not break down and go into a car. Also I will need to bring it into an apartment.
@andy mackey I do appreciate the concern. I do think their is a chance I would not no that. I have read up on warnings about electrocution prior to this conversation, but I am still happy you brought it up.
One thing that crossed my mind is walking under 161 kV power lines as dangerous due to the length of the object even if it is not in the air.
