Woah, so I was not expecting the tone I received here. So I’ll keep it blunt.

> If you don't participate in the AU community discussions, then I don't know how you expect to be involved.

Sorry, but I can't accept that for me to be a contributor to OSM, I need to be an active participant on a forum.
Everyone has the ability to see who are active contributors for a given area.
To neglect the actual maintainers of parts of a huge swathe of a region is negligent. Due diligence was definitely not undertaken. You've effectively vandalised the map based on your own preconceptions of what's appropriate, asking only in your own echo chamber.

An official classification of vandalism can be read here osm.wiki/Vandalism you guys have checked plenty of these boxes.

Stating how far back you had these discussions is completely arbitrary.

> Firstly there's different ways addresses can be mapped, as a lone node, on the building, on the landuse representing the lot, and the import took the simplest option leaving it to local mappers to decide the best option for each location.

> […] it's also not incorrect for them to be simple nodes, so I reject that they require cleanup. You may improve if you like, but it's not required.

As a whole. You're correct.
At the local level, you've fragmented the map style, and the data. Making these opinionated and egregious changes without notifying the local editors is wild.

The simplest option you've taken here, is evidently not the best one. Imposing your own decisions onto others is just self-centred.

I can't find a ledger on the wiki of why you made the decisions you made. Just what you did, and in part how.
No link to the original decision-making process.

How this was green-lit is insane.
How seemingly other random users became the arbiters of a large part of the map is insane.

2 decisions can be made by your cartel.
* Revert the changes. Reevaluate your script if you can't commit to making it properly factoring in risks that require "the community" to clean up the mess. Give up.
* Don't do anything. I'll take it up with the chain of command and get approved reverts treated as vandalism. Regardless of whether it was your intent, it is what it is.

3 possible outcomes could happen.
* Data gets rolled back. Import is abandoned completely by the brains trust that planned it.
* Or maybe you will try again successfully? Which evidently not likely due to the arrogance and cocksureness I'm reading in the replies here.
* My appeal fails to admins, and the vandalism persists. I'll have to waste time to write ANOTHER script to fix the changes in my area, as to ensure not to step on others’ toes.

I am legitimately flummoxed by how offended you are to even consider your multi-year effort a compromise to the integrity of the data in OpenStreetMap. Absolutely flabbergasting.

I'd love to read the forum thread to try and rationalise the decisions that were made here. Because from this side, it falls well short of being the best possible "conscious" decision.

Lmk what you wanna do.

I just noticed this changes and I just noticed that the tremendous amount of cleanup work that this will now require.

Can we rollback these changes until the import script is improved to assign the addresses to the buildings rather than creating superfluous nodes?

Well ain't I a fool!
It does work on iOS after all!
I apologise for the nuance caused with my incomplete phone number entries.

Yeah sorry, I was meaning to clean it up using iD but I had forgotten. Unfortunately Organic Maps does not permit characters other than numbers to be entered.
Thanks for picking it up and fixing it it up, I’ll try to be more diligent in the future.

As per "Future Spirit of Tasmania terminal" name, please refer to osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions

Hi Leon,
There’s a bit to unpack here, but you’ve created roads that don’t exist that should be marked as such, I’d suggest looking at osm.wiki/Construction and osm.wiki/Key:proposed to see how to go about this correctly.
The other thing of note (pun intended) that you have been labelling locations as “Future…” which is not the location’s name, and is a note tag. Tag accurately, not for cosmetics.

Hi There,

It appears you have assigned a parish wikidata entry to this administrative boundary. Can you please be more careful in the future?

73241080 tost 6 bloaz zo

Hi,

I've just come across this relation which appears to be a duplicate of osm.org/relation/3104327

73487253 tost 6 bloaz zo

But if there is no relation, how are the parts related to the the main perimeter building?

I feel what you're suggesting goes against what's described here on osm.wiki/Simple_3D_buildings

73487253 tost 6 bloaz zo

Going by the wiki it's suggested that you do not put anything on any relationship members if they are common across all members, then you put it on the relation. So all children inherit the properties.

The 'multipolygon' type I wasn't certain about, I guess the alternative would be 'building'?

I'll go ahead and fix the 'building:part=retail' tags, you're right, I was being lazy here :P

Hey there,

It appears you have attached a whole bunch of incorrect Wikidata tags to suburbs etc that are parishes, and not the actual suburb Wikidata entry.
Can you please be more careful in the future when using this tool?

Thanks in advance.

Any chance you can undo this? I don't think these buildings were physically connected, from memory.

Hey I just wanted to let you know that it looks like you accidentally created a duplicate of Boost Juice at this location. Can you please be more careful in the future when deleting, modifying and creating new locations?

Thanks for doing this, i'm looking at these issues within Victoria myself.

Hey there,
Just some advice for marking up locations like you have for HEMCO Industries, you've effectively created multiples of the same place, when in fact that all four buildings equate to the one location.

Next time you come across something like this again, just make the areas for each of the buildings, but do not mark them up as buildings, instead add a multipolygon relation and then with that relation assign all the details you would normally to the individual buildings.

I've gone ahead and fixed this for you if you wanna take a look on how it should be done.

Again, if you have any queries, let me know. But the first point of reference would be the wiki or the help site, failing that reddit or any number of chatrooms that are set up.

Remember, it never hurts to double check on how you should go about doing something if you're unsure.

Hey There,
It looks like you've made the same place in triplicate. I've gone ahead and removed the superfluous data, so now there's only one instance of the fire station (as there is in reality).

Hi There,
I've found a place you've put on the map "Darrium"? I can't seem to find any information about this place, is this legitimate?

63845570 ouzhpenn 6 bloaz zo

Hey there, I found around 30 places you've assigned the wrong wikidata id. Can you please be more careful in the future?

Looks like you've assigned either the parish, or the defunct city to these suburbs.

Hey there, just wanted to let you know Box Hill was assigned the wrong wikidata id.

63844312 ouzhpenn 6 bloaz zo

Hey there,
Just a heads up, it looks like you attached the wrong wikidata ID to this suburb. I've gone ahead and fixed this.
