Very cool! A spreadsheet is definitely the most convenient interface for translators to use for such a task. You should also check with the Kannada OSM folks how they translated over 35000 objects which is the highest for an Indic language on the map.

Using bank address information is quite interesting, since this information is available fairly openly. The map is looking amazing in the area, nice work!

This is such a great application of OSM data! Have on quite a few occasions been in situations where I wanted to quickly find an ATM on the way, but had no way to do so, till now :)

Tried it out and works great for my area. It would be nice if I had the option to control the buffer size and limit the radius of search results. Could you share the link to the repository? Might try doing this over the weekend.

Also JOSM used to add all my loaded layers before, even if it was invisible. This was patched recently to include only visible imagery layers.

Thanks Yogi, this is useful. Atleast we now know the numbers are not completely off. One thing to note is that both the pl and the osm-coverage script will be giving slightly higher counts due to dual carriageways. Still uncertain how badly this affects the final value.

Heinz, the calculations were done a few weeks ago, but its still interesting to note the differences in length. If you can share the process you followed to do this it will help find the cause of the variation.

It will be worthwhile to investigate to root cause of so many broken relations and how to reduce more breakage in the future. Working with relations definitely require a higher level of skill than other data types.

Its great to know there are QA tools like http://map.comlu.com/ and http://restrictions.morbz.de/ which help detect and fix them. The only problem is that it took me a random glance into the diary to find this out and I suspect most editors don’t even know that such tools exist. It would be great if all important tools like these were somehow accessible directly from osm.org for more visibility.

@SomeoneElse Languages in India is a complex situation and one would see majority of the signboards use both a regional language and English or Hindi.

To simplify tagging on OSM, we have been using name to represent the English/Roman name as it would be the most usable. Even though most of India does not know English, the roman alphabet is ubiquitous and in common use.

This is a great question. The most valuable way to evaluate the output of an OSM mapping team is community validation of the work. Tools like these helps the community review our work and close the feedback loop with the team.

The team is skilled to be able to contribute both in quality and volume, and this allows us to make large scale map improvements in a relatively short time period like the recent review of sidewalks. Each quality edit improves the map positively and that is what is important. It would great to hear your suggestions on how and what we could be doing better.
