GPS traces not shown on map

Publicado por PsJp o 1 de Agosto de 2011 en English.

I loaded my GPS traces in Potlatch 2 and was unable to see them.

I realized that they are hidden between all nodes and ways which are being drawn on top of the traces. It like three layers: background, traces, and rendered map data.

I would have expected that traces are shown on top of the rendered map data rather than the reverse.

What is the best was to show GPS traces in relation to the map data?

That order makes sense to me, as you can use the GPS traces to 'trace' over them with map features (e.g. roads).
If you just want to see your GPS trace over the map, but not edit the map, then there are other services. Such as the ones listed at osm.wiki/Track_drawing_websites
There is one that will display GPS traces uploaded to OSM (so you don't have to reupload it) but I've forgotten what the address is for that one.

If you do want to edit, but with the layers in different orders. You can do that with JOSM. osm.wiki/Josm

When JOSM seems to be to complicated at start, you can also try Merkaartor as offline editor to show your traces.

Also nice to check accuracy: http://www.routeconverter.de

Potlatch2 is for editing and creating ways based on the GPS and the background, not for viewing.

You can, however, dim the vectors with D to see the trace to help with the above.
