I am exploring OSM and the rendering toolchain in particular. I want to contribute in the project and start from addressing a less critical issue or bug. Could you give a pointer for this. Are there meet-ups happening in Bangalore (India) or anybody here from OSM or mapnik/mod_tile team. Thanks -Rajeev

Seems osm.wiki/Category:User_group , osm.wiki/India/Events , osm.wiki/Template:Calendar there is no user group India or Bangalore and no events.

Look at osm.wiki/Nearby_users (currently, in particular the alternative tools) to find people active around you. Then you can mail them.

Do you want to program/code? Look at the issue tracks (you should be able to find them via our wiki). E.g. https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/issues

Are you looking for info about OSM in general or mapping? See e.g. https://help.openstreetmap.org/tags/newbie/?sort=mostvoted or http://learnosm.org

By the way: if you would use a more descriptive title for your post here, more relevant people would read it. E.g. in RSS readers there is often only the title shown until one decides to read the full post. You could edit your post.

For the rendering on Openstreetmap.com you should look at https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto not the mapnik one above https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/issues they are not the same thing at all.

To help you understand OSM I suggest you do a little mapping. Look at the map around your home or somewhere you know well and see what is missing. Then try adding it, looking for the tags to use and the way the geometry works. This will then help you understand tagging a little. You need this knowledge to understand the rendering process of converting tags on objects into a rendered object.

Good luck

@rovastar: right, but it was asked for the “rendering toolchain”. Not the rendering style. Still, it is possible that (also) the style was meant.
