Yeah I'm meeting with KLL. In practice they stand in for the community -- not because they *are* the community (they wouldn't say so) but because they're in touch with most of it. It's a small, poor country whose brightest tech minds tend to go abroad for way higher wages and better education; community building is tough.

Trekkers already provide a lot of the best data :-). The main trekking routes are actually in good (not perfect) shape. It's the obscure routes or areas like this, where foreigners don't go, that are more problematic. Hence our keen interest to push data up...if we don't do it, it will be a while before someone else does.

Agreed it would be great to get traces from trekkers though. I am talking to some of the ultra marathon outdoors types here as they're a bit easier to connect with and they usually carry GPS.

Hi geow -- thanks for the great feedback throughout, it's really appreciated. Kutul is under a deadline this week but I'll teach her to upload GPS traces next, as well as do a general debrief so future edits are smooth.

I haven't forgotten about the organized editing guidelines either. I am meeting some key people in the Nepali community this week and will discuss this with them, after which time I'll update the wiki.

I'm aware of the organized editing guidelines and we are in touch with the local community. We = me and Kutul, but only until Kutul is trained and can do it herself. I'm happy to update the wiki and will get to that soon enough.

IDEA International is an NGO working in these areas. Their staff are collecting a lot of GPS tracks and points that we're using to make maps. As good open data citizens we're also uploading the non-sensitive data OSM. Still working out the kinks on that, clearly.

Hi geow,

Thanks for the detailed and thorough breakdown. I am aware of these issues and working on them with Kutul; the work was meant to be done in stages, much more carefully. And is now being done so; I will personally review future uploads until the Kutul is up to speed.

Please note Kutul is in not uploading raw traces but is in fact removing obvious noise and aligning with imagery. I do agree a Simplify Way to cut down on some nodes is in order.

Pardon the oversight. Birthing a new OSMer is sometimes messy.

Cheers

I meant to say -- this was not meant as an import, just the manual addition of raw data sent by others working in remote, disconnected areas.

Hi geow,

I'm an experienced OSM user and am supervising Kutul's work, mostly remotely. I thought we'd addressed highway duplications before upload but apparently not -- mea culpa. It's not really possible for me to supervise in person so these things happen.

Thanks for the quality control. I'll work with her to sort things out and upload quality data in the coming days.

Cheers

Hey oormilavinod! It's more "welcome to relations" actually. I've been around OSM for a while but mostly doing the easy stuff :-)

To be honest I can't find guidance one way or another about the tag combination. I'm open to any thoughts or guidance you may have!
