Working around Hillsboro

Rog in Hillsboro님이 English로 2008년 3월 11일에 게시함.

I've just gotten into OSM in the last couple of weeks. Since I live in Hillsboro I've been working on streets around Hillsboro: making corrections from TIGER data and adding new construction. I've been using Potlatch, but played around a little bit with JOSM.

I've been using Washington County's GIS system for info: street names and routes, as well as eliminating private streets. I would really like to find a way to overlay arbitrary images from this or other GIS systems onto the editor. Anyone know a way to do this?

Thanks

when you say "eliminating private streets", what do you mean? Are you aware that you can tag access=private? It would be best to leave these in the map as people may still use them for navigation, or may even want to get to a private road. Routing software should be aware of the access tag.

See the wiki page on out of copyright maps for ideas on using arbitrary images.

You basically import the image file, give the coordinates for two points in the image, then you can trace things and export the traces as GPX files, which you can open in JOSM to edit with.

Is the Washington County's GIS system info free from copyright?

private streets: I am trying to remove driveways that were included in the TIGER data. They are not named, and they typically are rural driveways and farm roads, often blocked with gates or NO TRESPASSING signs. I would not want my driveway included on a public map unless there were good reasons.

New developments seem to have a lot of "private" roads, mostly tiny cul-de-sacs, and I leave those in.

I was able to import aerials from the county (which, although IANAL, I cannot read anything that tells me I can't use them for OpenMap) into GPS utility (see Bone Killian's link above), trace the streets and upload a GPX. Thanks for the pointers.
