New here, but hope to contribute soon. Im currently traveling in northern India. I downloaded the India tiles from here http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php which seems to be somehow affiliated with OpenStreetMaps? but Ive noticed the detail on OpenStreetMaps is much more detailed. In particular the city of Leh is entirely missing from the link site. Is this something to do with one needing to catch up with the other? or am I missing some other fact?

They obviously only do updates from time to time, see their note:

Based on OpenStreetMap data from: 12-06-2010.

Who is "they" and "see their note" where?

Im trying to figure out the relation of these two sites.

OpenStreetMap has the data in a database and provides a map to look at. This map is updated every few minutes if everything works as axpected.

Lambertus is an OSM user and uses the OSM data to generate routable maps for Garmin devices. This is what you get when downloading. He updates this routable map once a week or maybe once a month but sometimes there are problems and we have to wait for some weeks to get an updated map. Just look at the line below the map to see how old the data is ("Based on OpenStreetMap data from: 12-06-2010"). The map used to select the tiles on Lambertus' website is the current OSM map, it is not the map you download.

I hope, the relation is clear now.

It was clear other than a vital part of the info, who is Lambertus! But I was just back on the Garmin routable map website and saw a link to a forum and low and behold there is Lambertus as the administrator! mystery solved. Also while I was there I looked up the India maps and they have indeed been updated to include Leh and some big green bits round Manali?. Now I'll read up on cleaning up my tracks and uploading them and can maybe pay back for the great maps you guys are making.

WARNING: Openstreetmap can have the potential to get very addictive. For example: you are fixing one thing, then you see something else that needs fixing. As you are fixing that, you see something else that needs fixing. It just goes on and on and on...

Happy mapping! And don't get addicted :)
