Motorway_link makes the most sense to me because the road is essentially serves as a long on/off ramp for route 9. The only reason I would be hesitant is because I've never seen an example of a such a long motorway_link for a 2+1 road

note: CT DOT marked these roads as "minor arterial" but they connect to nowhere. Ends at a "collector" road in North Haven. Does not make sense as secondary considering the road network.

Why did you revert this? Following your own source and ConnDOT maps, CT 82 is a "minor arterial" from CT 9 to Saybrook Road. It does not meet expressway classification.

Some feedback for your changeset: a ford means the river crosses the road way (osm.wiki/Key:ford). You should instead use bridge or culvert tags. Just click on the river or the road that are crossing and click the add bridge or add tunnel suggestion. It automatically splits the road or river for you.
You also can change the imagery you trace on by clicking background settings on the right of the screen. Mapbox Satellite has really clear imagery that makes it easy to trace the creek.

Don't move things such as underground pipelines just because you think they shouldn't be there. Underground pipeline markers on Street Road and Emma Lane show that the pipeline passes under the golf course.
