Surau and parking in building enhancement suggestion

Postitas SNN95 kuupäeval 23. veebruar 2018 – English.

Whenever I want to edit this kind of religious POI, I found that only mosque option available. There are different for each of them. Mosque for big one and surau for small one.

I want to emphasize the surau. Surau is a small and can include in every buildings in malaysia. That’s the rule for Malaysians or any investors that want to build one, they must include at least one surau.

So I want to edit to include surau in a building but there is none in the option or tag.

And other tag option like parking, ATMs, etc that can be include in a building. Maybe I can use the point but that not very convenient for a multilevel building.

This is just my rant for this subject. And if you think I missed the features option included in editor, feel free to tell me. Maybe I’m not explore them enough yet.

I added one this way: osm.org/node/5163082067. Here I used note=prayer room, but perhaps it is better to use description tag instead. You can use the level key for objects in different building levels.

There was someone that took an effort to retag these as place_of_worship=musalla. I had a chat with the user, so that it can be proposed as a suitable tag. Alas, said the user “the key is mature enough for a proposal”.

There are currently 385 places tagged as place_of_worship=musalla: and here’s the whereabouts.

Although it is technically (practically) correct to map it that way, if a proposal has been made and is successful, then these would show in OSM somehow in the future. And probably, OSM data consumers e.g. navigational apps based on OSM.

Oops. This is a better visualisation link - for the second one.

Sorry, I should carefully reword that: it will definitely be in OSM as mapped elements, but it may take some time to get it be shown on the (slippy map on the) main website

@AkuAnakTimur What gets rendered on OSM maps (including the 4 that are available on osm.org) doesn’t depend what’s in the wiki (proposals etc.). It’s mostly to do with the tag having a clear meaning and being widely used across the world (see the discussions about new tags at e.g. the standard style’s github issues list for more detail).

Of course, if you want to create your own maps that show this tag with a particular icon, you can.

I think the useful thing you can do is to add a description of the place_of_worship=musalla tag on the wiki. I suspect these locations which I have mapped fit this description too:

said the user “the key is mature enough for a proposal”.

Bah, I accidentally left a word! It should be “wait for the key to be mature enough for a proposal”.

SK53: add a description of the place_of_worship=musalla tag on the wiki

I see. I’ll let everyone know if I managed to document it in the wiki.

SK53: […] suspect these locations […] fit this description

Definitely! These places, especially in most (UK) unis, are exactly musalla’s, or what Malaysians call as surau’s (Markdown cannot parse the italic markups unfortunately, hence apostrophes).

Thank you for all the suggestions! I never checked back after I was so busy with another drawing project during that time and kinda forget that I mentioned this.

THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH FOR THESE SUGGESTIONS!
