Adding some more detail to the former Rocket Propulsion Establishment at Westcott, Buckinghamshire, UK. It's now Westcott Venture Park, but there is a secure inner compound within the secure site, where rocket engine testing is still carried out. I've had to remove a few roads that had been added to the map at Westcott because they didn't exist, and actually couldn't exist because they would have been on one of the old runway taxiways!

There are some paths on the map at Westcott that seem a bit odd too, since the site is a secure site, and if someone were walking along them, they'd have to go through 2 security fences to get in, and 2 security fences to get out to follow the paths shown. When I get some time at work, I'll have a look if there are any paths there, but I doubt it. One of the things about working on such a site though is people start to ask questions when they see you walking around with a bright yellow Garmin GPS60, so I have to be careful!

Since I was going back to my home town of Cardiff, Wales recently, I thought I'd see how much of it is on OpenStreetMap. Finding out that very little of Cardiff North is on there, I was mortified, and have set out to remedy this. Cardiff seriously needs some OSM love, so knowing my own area, and almost all the streets very well, I have so far managed to get pretty much all of the suburbs of Rhiwbina and Pantmawr on OSM in quite a bit of detail, and parts of Thornhill, Llanishen and Lisvane and Parc Code y Wenallt too.

I suspect this is going to be a long term task, and hopefully, given someone else has already done some excellent work in Cardiff, I may find some others with local knowledge who are taking this City on. Certainly the next time I am in Cardiff, I intend to do some serious wandering around with my Garmin GPS.

Walked around some of the streets between Silvertown Way and Newham Way to get their names, to ease the task for the Canning Town Mapping party. Also, some of the roads were slightly misaligned, so I corrected those where applicable.

Still lots to do, since there are so many small footpaths, hardly any of which I have mapped yet, since I'm just trying to get the main streets first, then the footpaths and amenities. The area is like a maze with the amount of footpaths linking the residential streets.

Went for a walk with my trusty Garmin GPS 60, to add more street names and detials on the western end of Canning Town. Seeing as there is a planned mapping session for Canning Town, and seeing that during the week I am currently working in Reading (so can't get back from work in time for it unfortunately), I thought it might be helpful for people if I added a bit more detail to make their task hopefully a bit easier.

Still loads to do, and there are lots of small alleyways that need mapping, as well as some of the larger tower blocks and other residential blocks, but any little helps.

Some of the roads in Canning Town that have been traced on by people are definitely wrong, but I don't want to mess things up by modifying other people's work. Additionally, some roads are no longer as long as they used to be due to recent building work (Victoria Dock Road, Huntingdon Street). I've walked around Huntingdon Street, so that's now the right length, but not yet had chance to amend Victoria Dock Road.

Added a few more streets in E16 from recent walks, and added a few more buildings in the Royal Victoria Dock area. Royal Victoria and Custom House DLR stations now have platforms on OSM after a recent walk (or will after the next render).

A few bus stops added, along with a post office in E16. I have a plan of action for the area to get as many points of interest as well as street names over the summer, and I am slowly but surely adding bits where I can.

Slowly filling in street names when I am out and about in Canning Town, London, E16. Where I live is a bit rough though, so it has taken longer than anticipated, since I can only map when I'm around, and not off at work, and because of the area, it's not always possible. Hence the fact I've not mapped Silvertown just south of Royal Victoria Dock in much detail yet.

More buildings to map in Royal Victoria Dock too, but the GPS signal between the high rise buildings is pretty variable for trying to survey the buildings (I'm using a Garmin GPS 60), so it might take a few more attempts.

Next, I need to start mapping bus stops in the Canning Town area too, and filling in a bit more detail around the ExCel Centre.
