I see in other cities that buildings and parking lots are outlined. How do you do this?

I was editing the map yesterday and the satellite images disappeared for no reason. How do I get them back, and if I can't then should I give up on editing, now that I can't see anything at all? Makes it tough when areas don't even have streets mapped yet...

Ok, I just did a HUGE edit and tried to save it several times. The first time I gave it a real description: I attempted to show that highway 1604 is now a divided highway between Culebra and highway 90. The save failed, and I tried a few more times. I *think* it saved. I hope so. That was a lot of work...
