- ~580’000 contributors total to our map data
- ~163’000 contributors in 2015
The two most newsworthy points are likely that we manged to hit exactly 9999 new contributors in November and the large drop in new contributors in December (which is supported by pnormans recently published numbers too).

It is a dramatic drop in December, and there are so many lines I can’t be sure, but it looks like December is often lower than the month before, particularly 2012-12 if I’ve squinted at the graph correctly.

@EdLoach there has at least been hint at some seasonality in the past. I had a look at the per country new contributor stats and they really show that there was a bit of shortfall across the board with the exception of Germany, the US being something over 300 new contributors lower than average.

The last few years have had drops around end of year/start of year, but this one is about twice the absolute size of previous drops.
