Homemade globe

Publiée par Skippern le 21 novembre 2016 en English.

Johan

My son have just completed a globe based on Sérgio’s map. Still some minor flows in our work process, but watching how he enjoyed it, and how satisfied he was with the result, I guess there will be more of these. Probably need to look into thicker paper, and a more suitable glue. First round kept my kids busy for one weekend. I had to interact at several stages, i.e., he needed help with the outline of Russia and Canada, he was not sure he was able to cut the lines himself, and with the glue we used, I had to do the gluing while he watched.

This is the great little cartographer! Look at that desert in Africa: I can see it from here in his globe, that’s exactly how it is, I almost can see the bedouins travelling by his desert. Great work, making the world!

Have he stated mapping yet?

Perhaps another one with more and smaller triangles would be a challenge. Certainly smaller triangles would lead to a more rigid structure. However the present one is a good trade off between work and result. The problem with glue would need experimentation with some offcuts first. Probably a specific local glue will be needed for each paper type used.
