Updating foot paths

Steve Jackson님이 English로 2010년 5월 25일에 게시함.

I have been using data collection for OSM as an excuse to go walking. I take the dog and the GPS and hit the road. I didn't do much over the winter, but have been active already this spring and hope to be busy all summer. I am really learning a lot about my own neighborhood just by walking around.

I have noticed that a lot of folks who have added paths have called them either foot- or cycle-ways when they appear not to be officially designated as either, so I just call any of the ones I edit paths.

Initially, I chose not to tie paths into roads, but have seen that most others do so and it would support bicycle routing I suppose. As a result, I have gone back and tied my previous paths into streets, usually using sidewalks to get there, and then have been tying my new ones into streets as I go along.

I plan to continue spreading out through my area and learning new parts of my neighborhood in search of new paths to walk.

I went through a phase of early morning walks with the GPS. Not sure whether OSM was the excuse for walking or the other way round! Must get started again.

Joining to roads helps walking routing, too.
