Started mapping in late 2021. It really annoys me when the map is out of date or missing things as I rely on it too!
Tools i’m using
- mostly… creating/filling in pencil and paper maps as i’m driving around town, then updating the info using iD when I get home
- on Android… StreetComplete, GeoTracks (for creating GPS traces)
- on Desktop… iD
If i’m doing something annoying please message me, I promise I’m doing my best
Sat 12 Feb 2022… there were some roads up the top of town that weren’t on the map (or on the Vicroads maps either for that matter) so I went and did a GPS trace of them and added them. Was far more exhausting than I thought, ended up being like a 5km walk as there were at least two more roads I hadn’t noticed, those weren’t on google maps yet either! They’re on OSM now though :)
15 Feb 2022… did an hour’s driving around. Drew seven pages of paper maps, marking about 70 shops and three carparks. About 10 of the shops were already marked, the rest weren’t there yet. There’s still lots more areas of town where shops/businesses are mostly not labelled, or very out of date thanks to lots of lockdown related changes. I’m on a mission to get the whole town up to date, because it helps local businesses when they’re easier to find. Today, I got five out of seven pages put up onto OSM, the other two will have to wait for another day…
April 2022… still adding things here and there (it annoys me when the map is out of date or missing things!) but not intentionally mapping as life is very busy
