I just finished a wiki page with best practices i found (in our german forum, and doing self intersection fixes). You can find it here:
osm.wiki/Fixing_OSMI_self_intersection
(It is in german and english language)
Feel free to use the discussion page to improve the practices or to add new practices, or add the practices you are using.
