Changeset When Comment

Thanks for the comments. I have made a change to remove the name but put the two "local" ones in the loc_name field separated by a semi colon. This does seem to allow to search for either. All largely based on osm.wiki/w/index.php?title=Names That said there isn't an example scenario in that where there is no obvious actual name but local one(s). If you have any other suggestions to best tag this please say.

I think "Frith End" is just the name of this general area or indeed "village" as I see has been marked on the map. osm.org/node/2743475436 I've left the same comment on the changeset you suggested but no reply yet but will give it a bit longer. I guess it is possible it is a sort of "nickname" given by those who live there for a road that does not have an actual name. Actually just thought to look on Find My Street and it gives it as "Grooms Farm Lane". Indeed https://www.truemanandgrundy.co.uk/property/grooms-farm-lane-frith-end/ even references it for ap property there. So maybe go with that? You are right it might just give me a reason to go and run it as is a nice area generally anyway. Thanks for your help!

PS found https://themovemarket.com/tools/propertyprices/mowlands-farm-frith-end-bordon-gu35-0qr which refers to houses along said road. The postal addresses just seem to refer to the locality of Frith End and not an actual road. Also checked historic OS maps and no road names mentioned.

Hi. Is this "road" really called "The Bumpy Road" perhaps by some sign on the ground or maybe more of a description of the nature of it which IMHO is not the purpose of the "Name" field. Thanks Tim

Ah thanks! Probably best to ask the same question on that changeset. I am a runner and am active with CityStrides.com where the aim is to try and run all the "public" streets in an area and noticed this one has appeared after a synch with OSM here. Sounds like you can at least go down it "legally" on foot and more so if less stiles but equally feel important OSM isn't full of "made up" names!

Have done thanks. Never quite sure if bridlepath is really more a designation than an actual distinct highway type but I see it can be. It seems the whole of Hatch Lane is a designated brideway even if the southern section "really" is a minor/unclassified road. As such was trying to clarify the bits which are not "proper" roads. The bit in question is not for motor vehicles even if get they could through the various gates.

BTW I made an attempt to do what I said above. Will try and get down there to have a look to see if anything could be done better. It will obviously need to be updated when the proper connection is made which surely can't be far away.

yeah noticed potential conflict of road classifications. Think the new section is correct as a secondary road but maybe that should stop when gets to RHS Wisley as Wisley Lane heading towards Pyrford is hardly a major road and very narrow in parts.

When I was there on Saturday it seems there are a number of paths off the new road (including by that bridge) which looked like needed more work to fully complete. Think would need to go and have a proper look.

Think should add barrier nodes where presume there are cones to prevent access for now and will become more permanent in time. Then can make the inaccessible section access=no for vehicles and maybe for everybody if no longer allowed on foot etc

Ah thanks - so I think we have between us mapped it right for now. I added the in construction "sort of" mini roundabout from my visit on Saturday PM and was able to walk/run the whole new road with the whole thing to myself. I thought surely they can't open this as not finished but makes more sense now to complete the connection now that part of Wisley Lane is closed. At some point will need to tidy up the cycle path/footpath alongside as at moment is mapped as if it is two entirely disjoint ways.

Sorry Wisley Lane not Road...

Hi - how does the new Wisley Road actually connect with the existing road ? When I checked late Saturday how it looked like was going to connect looked unfinished - that is the still in construction bit going straight on ? Will hope to get there tomorrow (Tuesday) to check but could not today.

Hi
I don't think the service road to White Lane Farm should be given an actual name in keeping with osm.wiki/Key:name and "The value is not a name, but rather an address". Also it appears to be a private access road to just the farm and I can see what looks like a closed gate into the car parking and main part of the farm. As such I am inclined to think we should:
Delete the road name
Make the service road private
Add a gate as above

... and so access=yes as normal

Hi Whilst I agree Burney Road has signs saying it is a "Private Road" there are no physical access restrictions and in keeping with the guidelines at osm.wiki/Tag:access=private?uselang=en#Clarification_of_the_term_%E2%80%9Cprivate%E2%80%9D think this should be marked as ownership=private

Interesting about the new name and the "s" or not. I also never thought it had any one as always just considered service road to Sainsbury's car park. Maybe it was given one due to the building of Crown House https://www.hawesandco.co.uk/new-homes/crown-house That and indeed FindMyStreet lists it as Crummock but seems best to show it as the street sign (presume also new) even if that might be wrong. If they correct the sign we can update OSM.
