Do you like to write descriptions for edits? And review other people’s edits if there is an unclear comment? Autogeneration of descriptions like in MAPS.ME and EveryDoor is interesting. But why not make ChatGPT do it?

ChatGPT is already pretty good at recognising pictures.
And we have thousands of open notes from StreetComplete with signs of establishments. It would be nice to add tags to the object in a couple of clicks that ChatGPT could recognize. Or build this function directly into some editor.
What kind of work would you put AI to?

I don’t trust AI because it’s equally confident when it’s lying/wrong/hallucinating as when it’s correct, and unless you already know the answer, you couldn’t know that the info you get back is wrong. And if you already know the answer then what’s the point using AI.

I can discuss who can be trusted more now, AI or a random mapper :)
Therefore, it is not about mapping. And about scenarios when you just check the AI result.

It would be nice to see the result to: “can you tell how to tag this on OSM?” (something like that). Could it return valid tagging?

i like ai for recognizing things and having users check/add info. for instance mapwithai makes adding detached buildings that arent covered by trees much faster and it isnt any slower to add buildings that mapwithai misses or gets wrong. sign detection isnt a bad idea although in my opinion it should ve used for detecting possible missed signs in an area and never trusted to find everything. i could see more ai detection being included in apps like streetcomplete or everydoor asking users to confirm that something exists and have seen a request for it in streetcomplete that was denied because at the time there was no way to reposition pois, hopefully they explore it again now.

Mmmm I dont think ai is really necessary. I could read the sign and process the info perfectly fine. Also ChatGPT might not know exactly what a given object is, it may just assume its a house when its actually a hostel or office

Also I prefer not touching that ai stuff, and i think osm already has chatgeopt
