about me
Hello I am Udar, I am based out of Miami dade county and have been actively mapping since summer of 2021. Most of my mapping is done in the Miami dade county area though if I see issues elsewhere in Fl I will fix, I also edit other parts of the US when on vacation mostly through surveying. most of my surveying work is done on Go Map!! and Every Door, for more info see below. Most of my work is spent on two things, the first is updating the alignments of roads and adding stop signs and other such signals and signage, the second is adding and updating pedestrian infrastructure since there are allot of unmapped pedestrian features in Miami. throughout all of this mapping I have done over the last few years in Miami dade county I have come across meany best practices for mapping the on the ground reality, things deviate somewhat across the county but some things remain the same but are not obvious from the outside. I am also currently working on getting the alignments of the simple 3D building mapping and indoor mapping done of the MDC Kendal campus, were I am currently a student working towards my bachelors.
what I like to map
Most of my work is dedicated to updating alignment of roads and adding sidewalks and crossings, and generally improving pedestrian navigation. I also spend time every so often adding and updating land use such as grass, shrubbery, canal areas and retail areas along with others.
the editors I use
iD:
I mostly use iD for adding, realigning and major tagging updates for roads and sidewalks/crossings. I also do all of the land use editing with iD. recently I have started using iD from my iPad as before I was exclusively using it from my laptop, I now use it from both. most of my work to do with realignment of vehicle and pedestrian navigation features is done on my iPad while land use is done from the laptop, really anything that requires working with relations is done on the laptop because it is comparatively more complicated for me to do multi-select from the iPad, something that I find exceedingly useful in editing relations.
Go Map!!:
I mostly use Go Map to edit ways, mostly sidewalks, crossings and roads along with adding stop signs and other signs that I can see with my own two eyes. usually when surveying I make changes to sidewalks and crossings (and items attached to them) from Go Map!! and POI updates using Every door.
Every Door
I use Every Door for adding and editing POI’s and other such single point features. usually when I’m out surveying I will use both Go Map and Every Door in tandem making two commits one with each, using each for what I prefer to map with them.
OpenStop
I have also started using OpenStop for surveying more in depth information about public transit and surrounding pedestrian features.
Happy mapping, Udar.
