JOSM - My Initial Thoughts

Yuzen-it-id Uyan af 5 November 2019 s English

I started learning how to use JOSM today, and I quickly noticed some advantages over the online iD editor. The first would be the seamless editing. Since there’s no need to “stream” data, all the actions taken in the editor are slightly quicker. You also have the ability to tag multiple objects at once. I’ll continue to practise with JOSM on lower priority projects.

If you map buildings at all, definitely give the BuildingsTools Plugin a shot. osm.wiki/JOSM/Plugins/BuildingsTools it’s night and day faster and easier than ID, especially for adding lots of buildings. Takes a little getting used to and definitely learn the keyboard shortcuts, but well worth it.

I also recommend taking a look at the filters and filter out what you dont want to get in the way (snapping). E.g. when mapping landuse hide the roads and vice versa.
