Garmin Connect now using OSM

Δημοσιεύτηκε από τον/την Vclaw στις 9 Μάρτιος 2013 στα English.

Nice to see that Garmin Connect now has the option of OSM maps (using the Open Mapquest tiles). It makes it a lot more useful for off-road running/cycling/walking, as it actually includes a lot of paths/tracks, that aren’t shown on Google or Bing. Though it might be useful if the paths/tracks were shown at a lower zoom level.

Also it looks like the course creator is using some sort of OSM autorouting. Though it seems it will only route along roads, and not any paths or tracks.

Walkhighlands using OSM for paths

I notice Walkhighlands are now using OSM data for the maps on their website. It looks like they are using OS OpenData for roads, placenames, contours etc, plus OSM for paths and tracks.
And the maps look quite nice - fairly similar to an OS Landranger.
See for example one of their walks: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/map1_13cg.shtml
They also have a route planner, using the same maps: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/

Copying from OS Locator

Δημοσιεύτηκε από τον/την Vclaw στις 16 Αύγουστος 2011 στα English.

It is not helpful to copy streetnames from OS Locator for places you have never visited.
It is not helpful to change correct streetnames, which have been properly surveyed.
It is not helpful to copy all of the blatant errors from OS Locator into Openstreetmap.

It may be increasing the numbers for 'completeness', but it is not improving the map. It makes it much harder to find actual errors, or places that need surveying.
Plus it is discouraging people from actually going out and surveying their area.

OSM for Scotland in Gaelic, now available here: http://osmalba.org/
Nicely shows which places have had Gaelic names added.
Currently down to street level for Inverness, Ullapool and Stornoway.

(I know all of the site is currently in English, any help with translations to Gaelic would be welcome).
