I’m interested in creating maps which stress the targets of journeys rather than their means or routes – a map of cultural venues: theatres, concert halls, opera houses, cinemas. Not all buildings are equal, some are intrinsically of more interest to the map user than others. Major cultural venues draw in large numbers of people from long distances, and these need signposting accordingly.

There are three tasks to make this work

  1. map and tag the buildings

  2. extend the tag-set to identify the sort of theatre/ venue (Ronnie Scott’s is not the same thing as the Royal Festival Hall, though both are concert halls)

  3. render maps to de-emphasise the routes, and highlight the targets.
