Im Januar 2012 ist der Netzaktivist und OpenStreetMapper Ulf M. eines gewaltsamen Todes gestorben.

Am 30.04.2020 hat das LG Magdeburg nun nach zwei Revisionen das dritte Urteil gegen drei Angeklagte gesprochen.

Wegen versuchten Mordes, erpresserichen Menschenraubs und gefährlicher Körperverletzung wurden die Angeklagten zu hohen Haftstrafen verurteilt. Die Angeklagten können erneut Revision beim BGH einlegen.

Was hätte wohl Ulf zu aktuellen Debatten um Covid-19, Flüchtlingen, Verschwörungstheorien und TOR zu sagen? Wie viele Edits hätte er bei OpenStreetMap beigetragen?

Nach meinem letzten Blogeintrag wurde ich nach einem Bild vom Branchenbuch gefragt. Hier folgt es nun, zusammen mit einem Kurzvergleich:

Am Wochenende kam das neue Branchenbuch "Die Münchner" ins Haus (http://www.diemuenchner.de/). Der Kartenteil am Anfang des Buches trägt die Lizenz "CC-BY-SA OpenStreetMap & Contributors".

Gestern hatte ich den Versuch unternommen, von Stuttgart-Sonnenberg via Dornhalde zum Bruderrain zu gelangen. Auf zwei Karten, die ich besitze ist dort eine Verbindung aufgezeichnet. Auch bei OSM ist die Dornhalde (von Benuter "vobs") durchgezeichnet.

Unternimmt man den Versuch, wird man gleich oben an der Ecke Laustrasse/Dornhalde mit einem Sackgassenschild konfrontiert, an dem explizit steht, dass es fuer Fussgaenger keinen Durchgang zum Bruderrain gibt. Und in der Tat: Die Strasse geht in einen Feldweg ueber, der in einer Sackgasse endet: Ringsum nur private, eingezaeunte Gaerten. Alles sieht "gewachsen" aus, als wuerde es nicht erst seit gestern keinen Durchgang mehr geben.

Wieso also ist der Durchgang gezeichnet, insbesondere auf OSM?

here are my points where I think that Potlatch is not intuitive and
could be improved:

- in general, most functionality that is available should not only work with keyboard commands, but with icons: In this way, you know what possibilities you have. At least one should list somewhere which keyboard shortcuts are available in the current context and what action they will perform.

- when Potlatch loads data, it is not clear weather it is already finished
(and there are so many streets missing in this area), or if it is still loading
something. An icon should indicate that Potlatch is currently loading and not yet finished with rendering the map.

-this is especially true when you hit the history button (H)

- GPS-Tracks shall have a label and one should be able to switch them on and off individually.

- there should be a history of the edits one made in the current session. I found that it was very easy to accidentally add some point to the map and then loose it in the chaos of lines and dots. I want to look into the history and find these wrong-edits.

Today I made my first steps in editing objects in OSM. I selected some area in Stuttgart-Heslach that was not yet covered.

Because I have no GPS, I just wrote down street names and entered the data in Potlatch, using the underlying Yahoo orthophoto as a basis.

It's great fun and I hope that I could borrow a GPS device by someone and get some tracks recorded. At first, Potlatch was a bit unintuitive in usage but I got used to it. I think an easier to use editor could attrackt more people to this project.
