Lünen Brambauer Buildings

Are you living in a fully mapped city and mapping each lamp post has become boring? So why don’t you help the countryside with aerial mapping?

I’m currently helping in the neighborhoud of Dortmund, my home town, in the Lünen area - somewhat countryside, somewhat city.

aerowest (www.aerowest.de), a company offering areals and geo-related services, has provided OSM with high-resolution pictures of Dortmund (1px = 5 cm) for an evaluation project.

While mappers in Dortmund can correct and extend the map, including especially housenumbers, aerowest is interested to see, if they can profit from such a partnership. Especially the company would like to evaluate if housenumbers and addresses are of higher quality than the commercial offerings.

See Dortmund homepage for more info (most still in German yet).

Gebäude zeichnen in Dortmund

Josm will heute nicht so recht, daher potlatch.

Werner

Hi,

I've started to track my walks and car trips with the Garmin device which I've recently bought. So far I'm quite happy with it, but I still have to learn a lot about map making.

As I'm using a Mac I wonder if there is a way to reasonable download data from the device without having to start my Windows emulator?

I've found out that you can switch the device in settings to behave like a USB disk and hence you can download the tracks you recorded from that device. This of course will only work if you set the track saving options to "Chip" (at least that's what I think... good luck).

However, you can only download tracks, but not waypoints (and I've inserted a lot of them...). Does anybody have some experience with Garmin and Mac? Googling did not find suitable tools yet.

Furthermore, I cannot upload the POIs from Garmin - the POI loader does not like the format - don't laugh...

Cheers,
Werner
