Hi to All,
I am just wondering who recently partly erased tram lines again on Riga map and why/? I would like them back. Please.
Thank you.

Which map are you looking at?
osm.org/way/63565739 still is both a tram and a tertiary road. Perhaps the map that you are using has changed the way that roads and tramlines display?

Hi SomeoneElse,
Thanks for your respond. I am looking on the map osm.org/#map=15/56.9543/24.1342 and when I open your link I still see tram lines partly erased across the city, for example on Matisa Street. I remember few years ago this already had happened and was fixed. Hope this time will be fixed soon.

I don’t think that it is a data change - osm.org/way/63565739 has not changed for a year. It’s likely related to the latest release of the map style that OSM’s “standard” map uses https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/releases/tag/v4.2.0 .

https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/2781 may be a related issue, and a proposed fix for that is https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/pull/2790 .

Hi Yevgeshik,
If you want to check that everything is alright with the tram line in Riga, you can use:
http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/ruP
That query also works in JOSM.
Download/Download from Overpass API.
If you install the PT_Assistant plugin, you can get a more in depth analysis of the routes.

Hi Polyglot,
Thanks for your answer. When I open your link I still do not see tram lines in some places and I know for sure they are there. I am sure that someone just erased them for some own needs and forgot to draw back. Few weeks ago everything was OK and now already few days is not OK.

Hi Yevgeshik, Please ignore what is shown on the visualized map. As “SomeoneElse” above already explained there is a bug in the map renderer. The data for the tramlines is still correct in the OpenStreetMap database which you can easily verify via the Overpass link that Polyglot sent. You need to click “Run” on the top left of the page to execute the API query. Then you will see the correct data overlaid on the incorrect map rendering.
No need to put rumors and accusations in the world when there is nothing to base them upon apart from a buggy map visualization. Keep in mind that OpenStreetMap is about collecting the geographical data and not about rendering one map.

I’m also in the process of converting the tram rails to their own ways, left and right from the highways. It will take a bit longer before I can upload, it’s not entirely trivial to accomplish and Ilike to get it as good as feasible. There might be some errors left for local mappers to fix, but that will be for later. I’ll let you know when I’m ready to upload. If somebody knows about better imagery than Bing for Riga, I’m interested… Polyglot

It took a bit longer than I had hoped. All the tram rails now use their own OSM ways, which is a lot easier for the renderer. It’s also a lot more precise, as the rails follow curves which the highways don’t. There will probably be some minor errors left. Even though I tried to locate and fix as many as possible. JOSM’s PT_Assistant plugin works wonders for this.
