New OpenStreetMap-FOUNDATION logo proposal

Air a phostadh le Zeptomoon 18 An Cèitean 2010 sa chànan English

A few weeks ago I made a slight touch-up of the current OpenStreetMap logo to add some shadow that gives more of a 3-D effect to the map background:
osm.wiki/User:Zeptomoon/OSM-Logo

Then I saw the logo contest for the OSMF.
Finally I followed some discussion about the desire for a new logo for the OSM project itself on the talk-mailinglist here:
http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

So, this morning I spent some time to draft an idea I had last night:
osm.wiki/File:OSM_Logo_World_Green.plain.png

This is only a first draft.
The colors and the slogan are open for discussion.

look good. on the colors one part could be blue instead of green, for sea ect.

the combination of the puzzle, the people and the map is very well done. I saw first the people, then the globe and finally the puzzle. All of this I saw within one second.

But I don't get the point of the two smaller versions of the globe. What should those mean?

The slogan is also a bit cheerleader-isch but I can't find a better one right now. Maybe something with your design, with the words "puzzle", "people" or "human" and "map".

In general, it's a good job.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I agree with you, the color can be changed. Other people told me it's too strong also. Actually, I put it to get some comments on what color(s) we might want to use finally.

The slogan is quite cheerleader indeed. Plus Frederik Ramm commented in the maling list, that the Foundation is not 'the map'.
So, maybe somebody has a good idea for something else to go there.

About the two smaller globes: It's just to see how the logo scales down to smaller size for letterhead-icons or even favicons.
It's just a plain SVG to PNG export from Inkscape at different scales.

If the logo idea gets good feedback, I will work more on it, try to make it scale better and maybe add some more dynamics and fancy stuff at the bigger scales, e.g. change the line width along the longitudes/latitudes, add reflection, shadow and such.

Cheers!
