My March 2020 in OSM

- OSMF Board
- A journalist wrote about women & OpenStreetMap (‘Visible women’: Feminist mappers bridge data gap in urban design), they contacted the board for a comment, and as is common, only a small part of what we wrote was included. Read what we wrote: OpenStreetMap and International Women’s Day. OSM is doing pretty good on this front.
- The OSMF needs a proper Conflict of Interest Policy, and we have a draft, which I did a little work on.
- To help pay for the Promotional Material Programme, our trusted treasurer set up an account for me on our accountancy software so I can file expense reports myself.
- Screen2Screen March was supposed to be the annual Face-to-face meeting, this time planned for London. The coronavirus pandemic means we had it online at the same time, using Zoom, becoming a Screen-to-Screen (S2S). It worked quite well
- CWG
- Ordered, and recieved 3 new sticker designs: JOSM (full design, J’adore OpenStreetMap (full design), and a French language attribution fixer.
- Posted 6 envelopes of stickers: Portugal, USA (× 2), Poland, India, Germany
- 950 stickers were brought to FOSSGIS 2020, the annual German OSM conference
- Mapping
- Still mapping, with at least one edit every day. The Irish building mapping project is always good when you want edits. Otherwise, StreetComplete when it was still OK to go outside.
- Hacking
- OpenKnowledge Belgium released a project visualising the gender of people who had streets named after them in Brussels. It’s 2020 and they tried to do something about gender with a very basic cis knowledge of gender, and trans issues! I walked them through why “Transgender” wasn’t a gender, and it has now been improved a lot.
- Community
- We’re all on lock down, no community events happen! 😢
