I imagine you used OpenCycleMap as a background layer. This no longer appears in the default layers. I dont know if this was deliberate, or accidental. I imagine you can still create this as a layer for Potlatch2.

Yep, you are unquestionably right. Then it’s the hard way, if I ever try…

In Potlatch 2, click on the drop down menu for Background, and at the bottom there is a button for Edit. That will give you a list of all of the available background imagery. You can find OpenCycleMap on that list, then there is an option on the right for “Key”. So that lets you assign a function key for OpenCycleMap. Then if you press that key in Potlatch 2, it will show OpenCycleMap as a background.

Note the contour lines in OpenCycleMap can be rather inaccurate. So for tracing lakes, it is worth checking other sources. eg compare with Bing aerial imagery if that’s available.

Wauw, thanks. That’s right - including Bing for reference: Last time the cycle map gave a good base and the bleak deforested future lake bed as seen from Bing was a good control reference…

This also leave some observations. I noticed that the Dim reservoir was ‘improved’ since I entered it initially: 1) Someone redrew the banks following exactly the size it happened to have the day Bing photographed it. These dam reservoirs change size according to time of year, water input and water output. I still think the most correct is to show its maximum size. However I am not going to re-correct. 2) Someone also cut up the banks in several pieces thus avoiding the closed object figure. I DID join these to have one figure that could then be marked as a reservoir.
