Why?

Publicado por andybryant el 17 mayo 2012 en English.

I still don’t know why I love OpenStreetMap, but after returning from a hike where I’ve trekked paths that were not already captured in OSM I get great satisfaction from spinning up JOSM and fixing the missing tracks using the tracklogs from my GPS.

I don’t get anywhere close to the same level of satisfaction from making updates on google map maker.

Keep up the good (open) work, and I’ll keep contributing!

Because you are free in OSM?

You are free to put on the map whatever you want, no restrictions at all. You are free to use the data in any way you want. And you know that nobody is your “boss” on OSM.

Next to that, you know you have “created” something.

I also love contributing to it.

Glad you like OSM more than Map Maker. I’ve tried out map maker before and it just isn’t as user-friendly as Potlatch 2.

I actually prefer josm for these sort of edits over potlatch. More complex initial learning curve, but once you’re up an running - I think it is more powerful.
