Tyntesfield

Zapsal antonys 14. 9. 2009 v jazyce English.

Took advantage of the excellent Heritage Open Days scheme to get free entry to Tyntesfield, S of Bristol, at the weekend and wander round with the GPS getting some tracks. Got an initial version uploaded and edited, have asked the National Trust about working with them to get some more detail in. Also need to check out the mailing lists/wiki to get recommended tagging for NT properties. It's a fabulous house anyway, despite currently being covered in scaffolding, and the NT deserve credit for keeping it open while the work is going on and involving the public in the whole project.

This is a dilemma I have had with my own edits - the name does not show up until zoom level 14 (which is not very useful if you're browsing/searching the map for POIs, either online or on a printout).

What is the view on adding generic place + name tags so that large estates show up at the same level as (say) villages?

I guess one could tag as a hamlet - given the size of estates it could be argued that this is accurate, though of course some kind of dedicated rendering would be preferable. On the Wimpole Estate, tagged as landuse=conservation, the name kicks in at zoom 14 as you say osm.org/?lat=52.1411&lon=-0.0497&zoom=14&layers=B000FTF.
