162777527 | před 2 měsacomaj | I can live with adding the place=city tag if that will settle the matter. I still argue that this leaves some confusion (admin_level=4 implies that Ashgabat is a province even though it is not) and would be happier if the admin_level=4 relation were deleted, but suspect that would eventually lead to someone else adding it back anyway. So please add place=city and let's leave it at that. |
162777527 | před 2 měsacomaj | Koreller, "equivalent to" does not mean "the same as". Ashgabat is a city, not a province. |
162777527 | před 2 měsacomaj | I refer you to osm.wiki/Turkmenistan_Geoname_Changes, osm.wiki/Districts_in_Turkmenistan, and osm.wiki/Turkmenistan#Administrative_Subdivisions. These articles are based on information I collected during my tour of duty as a diplomat in Turkmenistan. |
162777527 | před 2 měsacomaj | Ashgabat has had its own administrative boundary and has been separate from Ahal welaýat since 1992. The capital of Ahal prior to Arkadag was Änew. But that is irrelevant. The relevant fact is that Ashgabat is "equivalent to" a province (i.e., has legal status equal to the legal status of a province) but is not a province and thus should not have a boundary line tagged "admin_level=4". I can say that ibuprofen is equivalent to acetaminophen in terms of pain reduction, but that does not make ibuprofen into acetaminophen. By the same token, saying Ashgabat has legal status equivalent to that of a province does not make Ashgabat a province. Please correct this error. |
162777527 | před 2 měsacomaj | Ashgabat is not a province. It has the legal rights of a province, but by law is categorized as a city. This relation at admin_level=4 is incorrect and should be deleted. Turkmenistan has five provinces and Ashgabat is not one of them. |
64617567 | před 4 měsacami | Perhaps the wiki needs to be corrected, since a border is a specific type of boundary, and both are by definition and in reality lines, not areas. |
64617567 | před 4 měsacami | Well, that's interesting when you consider that according to the Cambridge Dictionary, a boundary is "a line that divides two areas or forms an edge around an area:

127835348 | před 5 měsacami | Please stop removing addr:city and addr:district tags from villages in Turkmenistan. The reason they are needed is to differentiate among villages with the same names across multiple districts (etrap) and rural councils (geňeş). Please see the wiki article osm.wiki/Turkmenistan#Note_on_Villages |
86756230 | před 5 měsacami | That is incorrect. The country itself is admin_level=2. As a city, Ashgabat should be admin_level=8. See osm.wiki/Tag:boundary%3Dadministrative#Country_specific_values_%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8Bof_the_key_admin_level=* |
151637897 | před 5 měsacami | Karizek etraby is part of the city of Arkadag. Please also see osm.wiki/Tag:boundary%3Dadministrative#Country_specific_values_%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8Bof_the_key_admin_level=* for use of the admin_level tag in Turkmenistan. |
142117450 | před wjace hač 1 lětom | Odd that key:place cannot be used with lines, since the definition on the wiki page includes this: "Defines the center or outline of a named place". An outline is a line. |
142117450 | před wjace hač 1 lětom | Ah, the errant node has been corrected. That was a mistake. |
142117450 | před wjace hač 1 lětom | I have double-checked the nodes for the villages in this changeset; none of the nodes includes the boundary=* key. That key has been applied only to the linear boundaries encircling the villages. If Nominatim has a problem with linear boundaries that is fodder for a pull request. |
142117450 | před wjace hač 1 lětom | Please read osm.wiki/Boundaries, which includes this statement: "area The original accepted usage was to only apply this tag to areas. relation+way However there now seems to be a consensus of using the boundary key also on linear ways, with relations used to aggregate these ways if needed." Boundaries are by definition not areas, they are linear and can be demarcated by points (nodes). See the Merriam-Webster definition here: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/boundary, which includes this text as an example: "The river forms the country's western boundary." In short, defining a boundary=administrative as a line is perfectly normal and appears to be acceptable to the OSM community as well as in accord with the generally understood definition of the term "boundary". |
114413730 | něhdźe před 3 lětami | This terminal is NOT for use by diplomats or Turkmen officials other than the president and members of his family. It should not be labeled as you labeled it. |
113144813 | před wjace hač 3 lětami | The motorway project west of the P-1 highway is the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashy Motorway, started and then abandoned by Polimeks due to non-payment. Recent imagery shows no progress since it was abandoned. |
