Easy way to add bike lanes?

Posted by brinnnnnn on 26 August 2025 in English.

A few bike lanes were added in the part of town I live in (yay!) and I’d like to add them.

However, I’ve mostly been using these apps to map things: * everydoor * map complete website * go map !! (rarely)

I cant find any way in map compete to add bike lanes – they added on the street, so effectively making the space for the cars narrower. Is there any simple way of going about and adding these types of lanes?

Thanks!

Hi there. If you are on Android https://streetcomplete.app/ is exactly what you need. It has a cycling overlay.

Great to hear about the new bike lanes! To add them to OSM, the easiest way is using the iD editor on openstreetmap.org. Just click “Edit,” select the road, and add tags like cycleway=lane (if it’s on both sides) or cycleway:right=lane if it’s only on one side. Apps like MapComplete and EveryDoor don’t support editing road details like bike lanes, so iD or Go Map!! (for iOS) are better for this. #OpenStreetMap #OSM #BikeLanes #CyclingInfrastructure #MapEditing #UrbanCycling #EveryDoor #MapComplete #GoMap #iDEditor #OSMTips #StreetMapping #CyclingKazakhstan #OSMCommunity
