railways in NZ and Aus

Posted by chas678 on 19 January 2010 in English.

Whilst in New Zealand I managed to get a trace of some rail lines at Featherston on the North Island - not sure how to deal with the adjacent 6km long rail tunnel though. GPS lost signal inside, of course, so I have drawn a straight line between the entrances to the tunnel and tagged it as rail tunnel:

Strangely it seems as if the tile rendering missed the Featherston rail extension I added, it's not showing at all.

Have also spent a little trace time with the Nearmap imagery of the Rail Yard at Redbank in Queensland, there's still a lot more to map there, it's going to take a while, but what's been done now is quite pleasing to see it rendered :-)

Looking good.

Do make sure to tag a service on the secondary rail tracks though. It's extra helpful because these yards are a specialist thing and not all maps will want to show them. (Not meaning to discourage you, quite the opposite!) :)

Good work anyhow.

Cheers Ash, thanks for the heads up about the yard tagging - I missed that on the wiki tagging guidelines initially, but saw it quite late in the editing session. I'll go back re-edit the ones that have it missing.
