Logotype in openstreetmaps | You can, however, create your own map based on the Openstreetmap data and display your company's location, using your logo as a marker it you want. |
|
Error Correction | I used the very useful ITO tiles layer to create the site in the hope that it would show areas that need surveying, and not to just use the OS Locator names to replace OSM. |

Lancashire: where men are men and sheep are scared | You're very welcome to map the remaining part over the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds too. The hills are a bit less strenuous, the roads are quiet and the locals are friendly. |

Unusual fields in post boxes | @chriscf: I didn't claim that common knowledge carries a copyright. Anything written down and published carries a copyright in the UK. If it is written down and published by a government office or agency then that is usually Crown Copyright. |
|
Unusual fields in post boxes | @Gnonthgol: It certainly is allowed to copyright public data in the UK, that's what the special case of Crown Copyright is all about. You may not like it but unless data is specifically released for use it is not suitable for use in OSM. Data given out under FOI requests are still copyright, usually Crown copyright. |

If you suspect someone has been tracing from Google .. | Contact the original author (use 'h' with the way selected in Potlatch) and ask about the source. |
|
How to filter | Where did you get this information from? Is it free from copyright constraints? How do you know you didn't upload over the top of existing postboxes - this seems very likely. It is better to check these conflicts and resolve them before you upload the data. |

Roundabouts, mini or not | If you want a mini roundabout tag the node junction as highway=mini_roundabout, you can add direction=clockwise too. If you want a full roundabout then you have to break the roads that join to it and draw a new way, drawn clockwise, with each round joined to it. The new roundabout road needs a junction=roundabout tag and also a highway=* tag, usually the highest type of road that joins it. If the roundabout has a name on road signs add name=*. If it's lit add lit=yes, if it's in a speed limit add maxspeed=*. Have a look around elsewhere for a roundabout example. |

War Memorials, Best Way to get a sane trace | For a war memorial I would use historic=memorial, with a name tag if it has one, on a single node for a small memorial. When a road changes, end a road and start a new one so they share a single node. You can then use different tags on each section. If the road is already drawn, split it with the scissors tool in Potlatch at a suitable node. You can use name=* for the name and ref=* for its reference number. More info in the wiki on the beginners' page:

Middle of the Road | If you have GPS tracks then update the the road positions to match and change the source tags to be source=survey so the next editor knows you took the trouble get out and survey. Along the way you will see all sorts of things that can only be gleaned from a survey. Using a camera to record names and positions makes editing later easier. Just be careful, it can be addictive :-) |

a start | The wiki beginners' guide might help too. osm.wiki/Beginners%27_Guide |

Rendering problems | One simple problem can be that your browser caches the old tiles. Have you tried forcing a browser refresh? Additions and position changes seem to render in an hour or two generally in Mapnik and sometimes much quicker. I think simple tag changes, such as a name change, do seem to not trigger a re-render. Have patience, not very long ago Mapnik only rendered once each week. |

Comparison to Google Maps | Rather than trace from Yahoo, why not go out an gather the real, up-to-date data from the ground? It's fun and it's makes the best maps. |
|
Numbering houses | Buy an OpenStreetMap surveyor's jacket (I think Andy Allan sells them). Then you look very official. Be prepared to answer questions which spreads the message. |
|
Alley next to 9th St. Park | If you think there is something wrong with the map, especially if you can verify it on the ground, just click that edit tab and make the change. What verification rules are you concerned about? |

Organisation - let's make it happen! | You have a lot to learn. Let's hope OSM can extend your education into the real world. |

Infilling bridleways in West Yorkshire | New OS data is useful for an area you know. Hand surveying is still far superior because there is much more detail to be found than the OS maps cover. |

strange node placement | I think the projection we use breaks down around 85 degrees north or south, so both poles are missing. Projections are always a compromise - we are trying to represent a globe on a flat page or screen. |
