Names and numbers

โพสต์โดย chriscf เมื่อ 9 มกราคม 2011 ในภาษา English

I'd be interested in finding out who was responsible for assigning names and numbers to properties in Swansea Marina, and having them prosecuted for crimes against humanity. I am sure in times to come archaeologists will uncover the bodies of people who lost their lives trying to figure out where a particular flat on Arethusa Quay is supposed to be.

Take a look here and see if you can guess (without actually spending 45 minutes on the scene figuring it all out) where in that square in the middle (north of Trawler Road) the following addresses are supposed to be:

1-55 Trawler Road
1-71 Abernethy Quay
1-21 Abernethy Square
1-58 St. Nicholas Square

Answers on a postcard please. I will reveal the answers just as soon as I can find the patience to punch in the details.

Ah, the pains of working out house numbers and the joys of knowing our work is so worthwhile and will hopefully be valued.

Here's one blog post about just some of the house numbers I have done.

Could be worse, I suppose. My favourite such story is that of the residents of a street that was historically the boundary between two settlements, and consequently got separate numbering for each side. The residents of Nos. 3 generally end up exchanging misdelivered mail at least once a week.

I know a street the goes 2,4,6,8,10,2,4,12,14,16 its a row of house with gap after the second 2 ,the 2,4 are from another street, behind the front street, yeah they are on the front street but numbered and belong to the street behind the front street. I just don`t understand the thinking. 10A and 10B why not

13's are a very common one to miss out - usually going either 9,11,15,17, or 9,11,11A,15,17 - although one house I've done has 11X instead of 11A.

But there's one which is just mad: 1,3,5,7,9,11A,9B,11,13,15

9A might had made sense instead of 11A - and it's not like it's new build either - it looks to date from about the same time as the original development.

another classic is when streets are wholesale renumbered for no real reason - madness!
